    Fawn 2012

Thanks Emmy. Its nice to know where they come from so you can pair them up without worrying they are related. it can be a bit of a challenge cage breeding at times as sometime they don't always like the partner we pick for them, i always put the hen in the breeding cage first for a week or more so any bond she has formed with any other zebra is broken "make sure she cant see the ex partner if they had one" and then put the cock in for a show or other small cage so they are not panicked and introduce him into the breeding cage from there, the cock once you back away should sing to the hen and she will buzz her beak and tail and mating should happen, if they are fighting or chasing each other it can be a sign thing may not run smooth. Remember two cocks or two hens can form a same sex pair with the bond being just as strong as a true pair and this can lead to them fighting with any new partners as well. Paul.

Hi In the photos it kind of looks like a Normal Hen with cock marks you do get this from time to time, does it have chest barring and on the pictures i can't see any flanks either what are they like?

    Surprise In Nest!

Hi Trev There's that Dilute vs Isabel thing again

    Surprise In Nest!

Hi Emmy You can pair one of those Grey Chicks to the white hen with black cheeks as they are split for BC and White and that will produce what you after with any luck Paul.

    Surprise In Nest!

Hi Emmy I Don't think you would produce any visual BC chicks from the white pair as that cock has been pair to a BC visual hen and not produced any BC chicks, this means he has no BC in him, but on the plus side it means he not related to the hen. Paul.

    Surprise In Nest!

Hi Emmy The male Recessive white at the top is not BC or Split BC I'm afraid as paired to the hen they would of produce visual BC's, but on the plus side your chick will all be split for BC, the cock must be a pied too looking at those chicks, the Brownie looking chick looks like A very light fawn or a cream to me, so that would mean the cock split for Fawn and maybe even Cream, that would make him a Recessive White,Pied,Fawn,Possible Dominant dilute cock The bottom ones are Both BC though Paul.
  15. Hi Stephen Sorry but you've missed the point.

    Surprise In Nest!

Can you put the Parent up in a photo please Emmy. Paul.
  17. Hi Stephen Its was not about who's is best or anything as childish. Its about another post that i made showing Uk birds, the intention was to show on the dutch forum what UK birds are like as not everyone has had much chance to view Uk show Birds. Most of the comments were positive and some were very constructive comments about one thing or another and were well received. Then there was a small number of breeders who instead of discussing negative views on UK birds and their use on the continent in private or on a post of their own making, they decided they would discuss this on the Post Made by the UK Breeder "ME", No part of any comment made By Rolf was even Remotely postive, My mother told me if you can't saying anything dont say anything at all, i wouldn't dream of insulting one of our Continental or other over seas breeders by passing such negative comments blaming the use of their Birds in my country for anything on a post made by them quite frankly it would be very rude. Rolf even managed to mention the UK Gloster canary and its negative impacted, well the Uk Gloster canary Made Gloster's world wide the birds they are most of the top breeders all over the world Had Uk Birds in there Bloodlines.
  18. @ Rolf So not Happy with implying UK birds would ruin the German bloodline " Sounds some how familiar" and destroy your hobby your now saying i "falsify" statements. Have you actually looked at the standard you posted "Nice beak with a rise to the top of a nice round skull", "nice and round in the Body not bending at the chest" do you you think there's a country in which there are quite a few birds like this as they have bred for type for 30 or so years, let me give you a clue its over some water called the English Channel. Rolf You believe i have trouble accepting the opinion of others, well depends on if they are talking Sh#t and if they choose to do it on a posted where they shouldn't of, if you posted a photo of a bird and i had a negative opinion about the bird, its countries Standard, or the birds winning in that country and there usefulness in breeding with the birds of my country i would be kind enough to keep my opinion to myself. Mr. Elzinga wrote: If this is the standard in the Netherlands would I stop onmiddeljk with zebra finches. I wonder where the line is or will be located . If this continues , we are a few years with zebra finches -sized Norwegian bullfinch as you see it now at exhibitions. One , in my eyes, undesirable development. And you wrote: I said the same to my german colleagues if zebrafinches thesis will be the german standard in a few years .
  19. Happy Birthday Dave Mate hope you had a good day. Paul.
  20. @Rolf Very true Rolf, Andy is very wise on this point, but to say that Zebra finches from one whole Country are not useful in the improving of Zebra finches from another is, Firstly Untrue and Secondly A little insulting. An Example of this is the Grey Cheek and Fawn cheek Mutations, a relative new comer to the UK in terms of the exhibition scene. The first Birds in these mutation were from the continent and not to the uk standard, But with a bit of time, for sight and stock Management, They have "Evolved" into the birds which we have today winning many top awards in UK. My aim is to breed Better birds, if i feel a certain aspect is missing in my birds, i will look to gain this aspect no matter which country the birds carrying this aspect are from, as i understand they are in essence the same birds taken in a different direction by their owner/Breeder which i would then use to improve my stud through Stock management.
  21. @ Rolf evolution (ˌiːvəˈluːʃən) n 1. (Biology) biology a gradual change in the characteristics of a population of animals or plants over successive generations: accounts for the origin of existing species from ancestors unlike them. What your on about is Evolution through Natural Selection, in essence Survival of the fittest which is not the only source of Evolution, see any Domestic Animal such as the Dog it has evolved from Wolves. Evolution : a process of change in a certain direction. Also i don't find Uk birds Expensive i have Bought some top quality birds and was very happy with the price, after all it is supply and demand.
  22. Hi Rolf A Timor Is a Subspecies and not the same thing, Separated by Thousand's of year of Evolution the same as a Python is not a Adder. Evolution is a good thing. Paul.
  23. Hi Rolf A zebra finch is a Zebra finch you speak of Uk and Continental Birds as if they are separate species, as a breeder you take from a bird the useful aspects you need, if you can't see the useful part of a uk bird then your not looking hard enough. Its funny how many other Continental Breeders have Uk birds and do very well from them. Paul.
