  1. I have a pair of zebra finches in a very large cage, they are the only two birds I have in that cage. They have made two nests in two different nest boxes is this normal? Will they take care of both nests? I believe there are 3 eggs in each nest, they both have been spending time in each nest, sometimes together and sometimes one in each nest. She started laying eggs about 12 days ago, when they hatch should I combine both the nest to make one or just leave it be?
  2. I have two zebra finches in a very large cage. There has been two nesting baskets in the cage for awhile. This is the first time I have had birds and birds that have laid eggs. Last week they filled up one nest with material and the female laid two eggs. Both male and female have been sitting on eggs. 3 days ago they started to build another nest in a different nest basket, they both have been spending time in there also. My question is should I be concerned? Should I remove the second one? Will they lay eggs in both nests and will eggs hatch from them both? Will they take care of them? Thank you so much for any info that anyone can give me.

    Breeding

I'm not to sure what treading means Allan, the male does sing and chirp a lot when he is with and around the female. He pretty much is always right next to her, they are definetly a pair I guess whether they breed or not. They have packed there nest very full of hay and toilet paper. The male is becoming bald/naked on both sides of his chest, kinda under his wings. There are no loose feathers in cage, I'm assuming he is pulling them out and they are in the nest? What can I do to help him, food etc. or is this process normal. I really wouldn't want to separate them, I feel they would become very depressed if I did that. Thank you so much for the info.

    Breeding

I have a question about breeding a pair of zebra finches, could someone help? The pair has started to build a nest and sleep together in it every night. How long after they build the nest would the female lay eggs? Or do they build nests sometimes just because? Thank you so much. Ricky

    Hello

I have two zebra finches that have started to gather materials for a nest. Could someone tell me when the female will lay eggs? Also in the same cage as the pair of zebras is a pair of orange cheek waxbills, the cage is large will they all be fine together?

    Sexing

Could someone tell me if this zebra finch is male or female? Just got it the other day and my male zebra has starting gathering nesting material to build, he has never done that before. There is also two orange cheek waxbill finches in the same cage. Will this be ok if the zebras breed? The cage is very large.
