  3. Welcome to the forum Barry. Enjoy!! Andy
  4. Thanks Paul, I've had another nest fledge and some of them are CFW hens with quite distinctive patches. But it does seem to be on the darker marked birds I notice. Andy

    Hello!

Hello and welcome to the forum.. Enjoy!!! Andy

    Splits

Dan, If you had visual BC cock and paired it to a CFW hen you might get Cock normals carrying BC and split for CFW if you then paired that to a CFW hen who was carrying the BC then you might get CFW cock with visual BC then pair that to visual BC CFW hen and you are away. Think it would take three years to establish the line and with two original pairs. But like I said earlier in the topic I bred visual BC normal cock to a BC carrying hen and didn't get one visual BC chick. (it's only if the BC gene from both birds come together) Sex linkage is so much easier to understand than this recesive one. Hope that helps. Andy
  7. Thanks for that Jeff, Sex linking in Zebies is the same as in Budgies so I can relate to CFW with being = to Lutino or Albino in Budgies. I just didn't expect to see any kind of cheek patch on a hen chick. (I know BC shows up easy) There was an odd egg I fostered from a pair which was a Normal Cock and there was a possibility he was split CFW. This is my first year with Exhibition Zebies so I'm learning all the time. Cheers Andy

    Splits

Dan, If you pair split BCs you have a chance of breeding some visual BCs. (I tried this with a visual x split but did not breed one visual BC out of 5 chicks) But once you have visuals pair them and you will get 100% BCs Andy

    Hi All

    Welcome Kenny.. Enjoy!!!
  10. Dan, I don't think my camera would pick up the patch in a photo- the elastic band isn't strong enough. (old joke) But I might give it a try and see. Cheers Andy
  11. Thanks all, There are two that have darker (greyish) heads and looking closely I see a faint patch on the other one. I was getting quite excited in case it was a cock bird.
  12. I have what should be 4 CFW hen chicks (parents CFW cock and normal hen) and I have noticed that one has a faint cheek patch. It is possible that an odd egg was fostered accross which could be a CFW cock. (I say 'could be' because I don't have any background information on the cock bird parent but understand that the breeder does have CFWs) What I'm trying to find out is- Does the faint cheek patch set the chick out to be a cock CFW or do CFW hens also show these patches. I have only bred one CFW hen pior to these chicks and never noticed any patch. Would appreciate any guidance please.
  13. Welcome to the forum. There is a wealth of information and advice here so enjoy and don't be afraid to ask. The most stupid question is the one not asked.

    Hello

Hi Ian, Welcome, as Kerry said, Zebies have changed a lot since my my previous involvement in the early 80s. 12 x 6 is a nice size and is twice the size of mine at the moment. Hoping for a bigger one by this time next year. Anyway.. Enjoy!!
  20. Thanks Clare, I now have some siblings from round 2 (but still only a week old or so) So maybe they might be better coloured. I know it is a problem keeping the grey out of CFW hens but as this is my first attempt at Exhibition birds, hopefully next year will reap a better colouration in the line. Andy
  21. Thanks Wayne, She is a bit special because she is Ring no. 1 of the very first of my exhibition line. (in fact the only one since early Jan) (I seem to have a stock of non feeder parent birds.) But she will stay with us and we will see what happens. Thanks again. Andy
  22. OK thanks Paul. Finger x'd then.
  23. Guys, I have bred a CFW chick which can only be a Hen. (CFW cock x Normal Hen) She is a grey-ish shade at the moment & her bill is changing colour. But will she whiten up? I hope so as she has the shape and deportment I think required for the show bench. (this is my very first Exhibition Chick bred) Thanks.. Andy
