  1. Can someone confirm what these chicks are please. Dad is an OB from garden centre and mum is from Isabel cock x OB hen (again both from garden centre) I'm wondering if the darker chick will be BB or just that it is Normal and others are Fawn. This is a group of 5 from 8 surviving from 10 eggs with the others fostered out 2 dark like the one in photos and other being Fawn. The tails on Fawns (?) can be seen and dark one is the same I will admit to this basically being my 1st foray into non standard mutations. Your help would be very much appreciated

    Sexing

I agree with Emmy and it has the look of a Pied from that photo.
  3. Not sure what's going on here but we've ended up with two post together... Gary!!!!

    Hello

Hi Ricky and welcome to the Forum. With regard to the Zebra hen laying, as a rule of thumb and assuming the pair are in breeding condition it could be around 9 days from when you put up the nest box for them. However, if hen is super fit she could start at about 4 days. Any early eggs might be infertile if the cock hasn't been in with her for very long. But it sounds like things are progressing nicely for you. As regards the other birds being in the same cage, you best keep an eye on everything because the Zebies might get a bit territorial. I don't know about that type of bird so not aware of any characteristics which could be detrimental. Hope that helps. Andyn
  5. Looks to be two Pied and a double factor Spangle from this angle Dave but aren't they smart?
  6. Well done Sarah and hope Dad does do better. Seems like a long time since you were last on here and I've missed your Photo Comp entries.
  7. Welcome back Allan and thanks for your good wishes. Andy n
  8. Hi Shelley, Happy New Year and welcome to the Forum. Hope your two Birds do well and that you enjoy them immensely. Ask away with your questions and I'm sure there are enough members to answer them. Andyn

  10. Hi there and welcome to the forum. I'm sure any questions you have will be answered by members who have been/are novices.at some time. Sounds like you have the Zebie bug and enjoyed showing too. If you join the ZFS you would get a ring order form which is what you would need (rings that is) if you want to show own bred birds next year. Whatever you decide enjoy your birds and remember that the most stupid question is the one not asked. Perhaps you will enter our monthly photo competition some time too. Andy N
  11. Well done Penny. I think you are doing things right but if you have already put nest boxes in for Zebies you could end up with chicks too big for rings when they arrive 6th Jan. If that does happen, you could use a little slippage assistance on the inside of ring. Perhaps try a little water/spit first. If no go, try mild washing up liquid or failing that good old Vaseline. But clean off any excess of the last two items. Good luck with all your birds. Andy
  12. Many Happy Returns of the day Trevor. Hope you have a great Birthday and many of them. Enjoy your day!!! Andy

    Hi

Welcome to the forum Winic1 I'm sure you'll get your answers regarding CFW and babies, but I don't know enough about mutations to help I'm afraid. Enjoy!! Andy N
  14. That's a shame Emmy but you never know with the nail varnish trick, but you can monitor the progress with your Oviscope candler and see if there is still movement. Only thing is (and I expect you are aware) when chick tries to break through it's going to have a little problem getting past the varnish so might need some help. Keep up the good work. Andy
  15. I had a similar experience when I kept the Budgies but it got the Budgie proper through the wire and killed it so I double wired the flight. Diamonds are notoriously panicky and ours use to try to fly through the wire when Harry Hawk visited and we had to treat the nose part of the beak. We use a football rattle when they start being a nuisance which is usually August time. One tried to get at the Zebs the other day and came into contact with the glass of the window. I think it got the message and has left us alone since, but it got a Collared Dove last week which had panicked and crashed into our house window and was stunned on the floor. Those Hawks are so quick.
  16. Charlotte, I don't wish to take advantage but I bought Harker's before contacting you and I'm assuming it is the same as Acox. Could you tell us what the dose and treatment duration should be for small (Zebra Finch) size using Harker's. Understand if it becomes a problem. Thanks AndyN

Good on you Penny, Have you been bitten by the show bug now I wonder. Did Steve do any good with his Budgies?. There was quite a strong Budgie show at the Western Counties yesterday too
  18. Hello again Charlotte and welcome to the Forum. Thank you for your offer of advice on bird ailments I expect members will be in contact. Reading other post replies to 'Going Light' people are already using 'Feast' with good results.
