Lovely young chicks is that the 'dad' keeping an eye on them? he's a beauty.

What do you use on the bottom of the cage Paul?

Hi Emmy

That's the dad of the combo chick but the rest are chick from another nest who wouldn't feed, which is odd as the pair who wouldn't feed are now feeding 6 chicks which they are feeding very well, odd these zebra finches at times.

The stuff in the bottom of the cage Is called Gold chip, it's a type wood chip its not as fine as saw dust but not as large as normal wood chippings,i find it to be quite good but it still be blown to the corners of the cages by the zebras wing beats.

Paul,

Yep i certainly do, i like him. What is the hen of this chick?

I can see BB but could be carrying BC and i reckon the BC will be overtaken by orange.

With the BB it's quite unusual to see the white either side of the beak, if poss paul, love to see pic when fully coloured up.

I think there could be quite a bit of orange to come on him.

Nice bird there, well done,

Trevor :)

Ps i looked for that helicopter that i heard at the end of clip, sounded like a chinook :D :D :D

Hi Trev

I think the mother is a OBBB Normal hen but now im thinking she is split BC too i'm pretty sure the cock isn't but looking at this youngster the hen could be.

I think the helicopter noise was the mother doing a few laps at the site of the camera

Here's a video of another pair and some of their chicks and some they are raising from another pair.

Paul,

Great clip loved it. Also liked another one in there it's a grey with orange on and he appears towards the end of the clip.

Would it be poss to send a pic of him as well later on when fully coloured please like to see them again.

On sunday you mention L/B's, i to liked your idea, found it more interesting the more i think about it.

So could i introduce a BFBC/CFW (2012 young) x BCLB or is best to pair an original BFBC x BCLB.

What would i get from 1st pairing ? i get lost a bit when CFW & LB crop up in the same equation.

Hope you can help, Thanks Paul.

Trevor :)

Ps, Am i right in saying the LB won't destroy the black as in CFW ?

Hi Trev

I think Lb will work better with the black not as much of a contrast as Cfw but still very nice

Normal BFBC/Lightback & CFW Cocks

Normal BC/Lightback & CFW Cocks

Normal BCBF Hens

Normal BC Hens

Lightback BCBF Hens

Lightback BC Hens

I think thats right Trev .

Hi Trev

I'm not sure i will have to have a look at their rings theres a few of them and everyone of them is a cock, i have just bred a BBBF Fawn which could be OB as well but its to young yet to tell for sure so i'm hoping for a hen and i managed to breed a cracking split cock which is unrelated for next years breeding season.
