Faracat 27 Report post Posted July 14, 2014 Well my lovely new grey penguin hen has decided that my young, pied CFW male is the one for her and they are busily building a nest. The joys of keeping all your birds in an aviary.... Anyway I'm not going to split them up, so if they do manage to have chicks what colours might they be? Andyn 534 Report post Posted July 14, 2014 If I'm reading correctly and the Penguin isn't carrying the Pied Gene you should get Normal split for pied and penguin Cocks. AND because the cock is a CFW which is sex linked you should also get CFW hens which could also carry Pied and Penguin. I'm sure others will help out. Faracat 27 Report post Posted July 14, 2014 Thanks Andy. She's not a pied, but as she was a pet shop buy, she could be carrying something that I don't know about. Is there a site that explains all the genes for Zebra finches? I'm really interested in learning.
Andyn 534 Report post Posted July 14, 2014 There is a site as below which might help you and there is a book called 'Keeping and Breeding Zebra Finches' by Chris Blackwell (you might get a used copy from ebay). I believe there is a http link to breeding expectations and results but I'm afraid I can't recall what it's called. Hopefully someone will be able to tell you. http://www.efinch.com/varieties.htm Andy
