norfolk flyer 208 Report post Posted January 10, 2016 Hi Gary, Both parents are OBBBLB, that's the pleasing thing. So should all be 100% as parents. Got another pair on 6 eggs so fingers crossed. Only problem with orange it takes forever to show through. This makes me wonder how many get passed to pet shops well before colouring up fully. Thanks for interest Gary. Trevor ? Zebraman 267 Report post Posted January 11, 2016 Thanks for the information Trevor. From what I can see of the cock bird he's got a nice head and colour on him, is he one of the birds you got from the continent? Good luck with these you've put a lot of work in to your colours and it really seems to be paying dividends. Please keep us updated
norfolk flyer 208 Report post Posted January 11, 2016 Emmy:- Yes I have one nest with 6 eggs and another with 5 eggs. One of the above nests parents are OBBBLB (like dad in photo) x BFBBLB/OB so could be interesting if they hatch. One thing I will say is when working with diluted colours they seem longer to show colour. Gary:- will keep you posted as things happen also got another programme to set up soon and if goes well it'll be posted on here. Trevor ?
Aspen 2 Report post Posted January 12, 2016 I have also noticed that OB males take longer to get their solid breast feathers than the normal blacks. Any idea why? I have chicks from September that are only now almost coloured in. Still not totally there.
norfolk flyer 208 Report post Posted January 16, 2016 Update: Checking birds today and noticed this chap, he's one of the 5 mentioned earlier in post. Hes going to be a male, first one I've bred, The faded orange is now starting to appear in the cheek patch. If you look closely you can just see the orange bleeding through. Zebraman 267 Report post Posted February 1, 2016 The orange is certainly showing through now. Thanks for sharing Trevor. What lens did you use for these shots? Gary
norfolk flyer 208 Report post Posted February 2, 2016 Emmy, the main colour will be a diluted grey, light silver colour. Also the orange will be diluted as well. Gary, hold your breath here, it was with an I phone, Pleased with the camera on a 5s. Trevor ?
Zebraman 267 Report post Posted February 2, 2016 Well, well, well I am gobsmacked, although I must admit the Iphone does take a good picture. Got myself a 70d recently, not tried it out fully yet also looking to get a new long lens to add to the collection. Gary
Aspen 2 Report post Posted February 4, 2016 How dark are the tails on your LBs, Trevor? Are they black or a lighter grey? Thanks
norfolk flyer 208 Report post Posted February 6, 2016 Gary: managed to pick up a 70/200 is f4 at a bargain price. It'll be working overtime in the spring/summer. 70D nice bit of kit ? Aspen: with the orange involved it dilutes the tail as well. So yes it has lighter tail colouring. Thanks !
Aspen 2 Report post Posted February 7, 2016 Thanks Trevor. Do you think a split OB would also have the lighter tail or does it have to be full OB to have that?
norfolk flyer 208 Report post Posted February 7, 2016 Aspen, I don't think a split OB in a LB would dilute the colour as much as a full OB. Trevor ?
