Ricky 0 Report post Posted February 18, 2017 I have two zebra finches that have started to gather materials for a nest. Could someone tell me when the female will lay eggs? Also in the same cage as the pair of zebras is a pair of orange cheek waxbills, the cage is large will they all be fine together?
Andyn 534 Report post Posted February 19, 2017 Hi Ricky and welcome to the Forum. With regard to the Zebra hen laying, as a rule of thumb and assuming the pair are in breeding condition it could be around 9 days from when you put up the nest box for them. However, if hen is super fit she could start at about 4 days. Any early eggs might be infertile if the cock hasn't been in with her for very long. But it sounds like things are progressing nicely for you. As regards the other birds being in the same cage, you best keep an eye on everything because the Zebies might get a bit territorial. I don't know about that type of bird so not aware of any characteristics which could be detrimental. Hope that helps. Andyn
