FinchSox 0 Report post Posted June 25, 2017 My mother's finches laid eggs about 7 months ago. There were 2 males and 2 females I thought. The 2 males got their coloured cheeks and zebra chest ages ago. Sometimes the gray female looks like she has zebra stripes under her feathers, but shouldn't she have got her colouring by now? She has no orange cheeks but has a speckled head (idk if that means anything).
Andyn 534 Report post Posted June 26, 2017 Hi, and welcome, Sometimes females get 'Cock Markings' and some mutation ones also get cheek patches. If you could post a photo of the hen in question I'm sure someone on here would be able to advise once we/they know the colour/type/mutation. I have bred a hen with chest bar mark and another with quite dark cheek patches this year, so I believe it is quite common but are show faults. Andyn
