Birdz 4 Report post Posted November 2, 2017 Hi there, how do I breed a penguin without having one? If I breed two pieds does that give me a chance of getting penguin offspring?
Andyn 534 Report post Posted November 2, 2017 No! to get Penguin you need two visual Penguin parents or at least ones that are carrying the Penguin gene ( that would be a hit or miss production). Breeding Pied to Pied produces Pied. The two are different mutations. Welcome to our Forum by the way. Andyn
Birdz 4 Report post Posted November 2, 2017 (edited) Ok thank you, So if my birds don't have penguin genes does that mean I have zero chance of breeding a penguin? Edited November 4, 2017 by Flight Feathers
Andyn 534 Report post Posted November 2, 2017 That is correct. I have had buyers who looked at my Pied and called them Penguin. Andy
Birdz 4 Report post Posted November 2, 2017 So penguin isn't considered a type of heavy pied? As in its a completely seperate Color altogether?
Andyn 534 Report post Posted November 3, 2017 http://www.efinch.com/species/pengzeb.htm Try this site. Efinch is very informative I think it is some Pied markings that look similar to real Penguins.

Miss May 1 Report post Posted November 21, 2017 Yep as Andy said, zero chance. We just don't have many rare colours over here, and as the main source of zebra finches here is the pet shop that leaves an even smaller chance of getting something good. c:
