My first babies Sign in to follow this Followers 0 Entry posted by Penny W · January 4, 2016 1,230 views I'm on holiday, left my birds with my stepson. Today he sent me a picture of my first 2 babies with their parents, fledged and doing well. Very pleased with them. My partner thinks probably clock birds, how long before this is obvious? Report reply Andyn 534 Posted January 4, 2016 Hi Penny Hope you are having a good holiday. Those youngsters look good but you won't get to know their gender until they moult out I'm afraid. Some times young cocks try singing as they start the moult and this gives a good indication before you see any cheek or flank feathers It's easier with sex linked chicks i.e. Fawn cock to normal hen will give Fawn hen chicks and same goes for CFW to normal. etc. If you paired an Ino Budgie to a normal you end up with Ino hens. ( same scenario) But this can also work where the cock is split for a sex linked mutation you get those hen chicks but also other hens could be say Normal. If that is parents in the shot I notice the hen is Black Cheek so those chicks will be split BC. when you breed with them bear it in mind and pair BC to them if you want BC chicks or use non BC partners. Hope that doesn't sound too much like a lecture. Enjoy the rest of your holiday. AndyN Share this comment Link to comment

Report reply Andyn 534 Posted January 5, 2016 Penny, I think the basic concept of the Forum is for experienced owners to be able to help newcomers. I'm only passing on the knowledge gained from 3 years on here with Zebies. So don't apologise for asking questions and as someone on here said ' The only stupid question is the one not asked' Mine seem to start moulting about 2 months and take about 6 weeks to complete. (others might find their birds differ from that) CFW do to take longer I find. Andy Share this comment Link to comment
