Well at last I finally have a clutch of fawns hatch this year.

4 eggs 4 chicks, first time for this pair though, so have fingers crossed all will be well.

BC fawn Hen x BB Fawn Male, only a couple of days old though so a long wait yet.

Should fledge for Xmas, will be a excellent present.

Now need the other to follow suit

I have been given a little fawn hen today, she is my first fawn so I'm really chuffed with her.

I'm hoping that in time, she will pair up and breed. However what are the chances of me getting any fawn chicks?

I have a few brothers that are grey normal, Pied grey, grey BC and pied grey BC in colour, their mother was a CFW. The other males are CFW (one could be carrying BC, but he's not got smudgy tears like his mother) and I do have one grey penguin, but he seems a bit clueless when it comes to breeding, bless him. So I'd be shocked if she managed to have chicks with him.

She will be in the aviary, so she could choose from any of the above.

Ive bred my fawn pied with normal grey black breast and the outcome was fawn pied female (light fawn in colour) grey pied female and a normal male. Fawn is a sex link mutation so that female shouldnt be fawn.

as if that wasn't already puzzling that fawn female is paired with a normal grey black cheek whose 3 out of 4 eggs hatched and one appears to be a fawn( brownish beak, lighter skin tone) hopefully it turns out to be a male.

Any idea on why the fawn pied is a female not a male when the mother was fawn?

Hi breeders, I have a fawn male(double factor/normal father, fawn mother). I am going to get hold of a penguine female. I am not sure if she's single or double factor.

Can i breed these 2? What am i supposed to get from them?

Also is there any genetic calculator online that i can use to guess the chicks mutation?

I don't have any fawns as all my birds are either CFW or greys. I have been wondering about getting some fawns as it is an attractive colour. I keep my birds in an aviary, so they pair up with who they like.

If a fawn paired up with one of the CFW, what colour would the chicks be?

If a fawn paired up with a grey, what colour would the chicks be?

Hi everyone,

Last week I (for the first time) got a pair of zebra finches!

I have been reading a lot about them and was wondering if my cock is a Fawn or Fawn/Florida Fancy. He is lacking the tear mark and the Chest Flanking.

Also my female is a Normal Grey if they breed I am assuming i will get

25% Female Fawn - 25% Female Fawn/Florida Fancy - 25% Male Grey/Fawn - 25% Male Florida Silver/Fawn

Is this correct?

Will my split to Florida Fancy chicks display signs of split-ness like their father? i Would love a Florida silver!!

I know not to inbreed them but theoretically will inbreeding them result in a Double Factor Florida fancy?

Also, What is the visual difference between a Florida Fancy and an Isabel?

I have chicks from a light back cock and hen 3 young are light back cocks. However the fourth looks to be of a fawn colour but has a white underneath.

Do you think this is a badly marked light back or a fawn cock.

this is a picture of the male paired to my cream hen.hes a bit tatty as it was of him going thro the moult and is a old picture from last year and cant find a recent one of him or one of him after the moult. hes slightly smaller than the hen but no he produces not bad side chicks as I saw some of them from who I got him of.

Hi Guys,

I inherited my zebs from my daughter Lauren, she made her mark at the club show in 2008, winning the colour award for best fawn, the fawn pairs have not produced and I thought this year maybe the end?

I have swapped a lot of eggs around, some from a pair of fawns I gave the last attempt, cock bird is the 2008 club show colour award winner.

I am sure the picture of the young below are from this pair, fingers crossed.

What I thought was as BC Fawn is indeed a BC Fawn Cock.

He has started to colour up now taking his time about it , pic below

Still a way to go yet with colouring up.

The flank markings are starting to come through they are showing a dark brown rather than the usual chestnut.

This is a first with this colour for me, cann't wait to see the full colour
