  1. Hi Lawrence, Welcome to the forum. I wouldn’t clean the eggs under any circumstances, egg shells are very porous and anything that your cleaning them with will just soak through the shell and possibly render all your eggs infertile. Is it both birds in each pair that are messy or is it just one of them, take a look at the backend of your birds (the vent) to see if their feathers are clean or wet? Are you using wooden, plastic or the basket type nests? I line my nest boxes with hay right up to the sides and then cover this with jute, I then give the birds extra material so they can finish the job off themselves. Birds can also be like humans in a way, some of them are exceptionally messy others are really tidy.Gary.

  2. Morning Dave,Welcome to the forum.Hope you’re all settled in now after your house move?Good luck for the coming season and I look forward to hearing how things progress throughout the year.Gary.

  3. During the weekend I changed the florescent light tube in the setup to 6,500k day light tubes and was amazed how the birds reacted to the change. The first thing I noticed was that all the cock birds immediately started to sing and the majority of the hens became more receptive to the new colour that these tubes gave off. I have now started to replace the smaller tubes in the lower cages with the same type and I’m now planning to add the smaller fittings to all the other cages. This certainly has made a difference and it will be interesting to see how this effects their breeding cycle. Please pm me if you require further information.Gary.

  4. Now that the festive season is well on the way, I've decided to put several pair's together to see what they produce?I also currently have three pair's with chicks:-Two pairs of lightbacks. One pair of black Breasted Chestnut Flanked whites.Who's started their breeding season then and what's your choice of colours?Gary ;););)
