  1. Hi Kerry,

Charcoal is a good Anti Toxin for birds and helps to clear poisons that build up within the stomach.

If you notice a bird that is wet at the back-end, try giving Charcoal this aids digestion and clears toxins.

    Hope this helps,

    Gary.

  2. Hi Emmy,

I'm really sorry to hear the news about Teeny, You took both these chicks and gave them every chance of survival.

Please don't let this put you off trying again.

If there's anything I can do to help, please let me know.

    Gary.

  3. Hi Squiggley,

One of the things that I have picked up on from your post is that you have mentioned that your son was trying to tame the birds.

I'm not sure how he was trying to do this, but it could be that this alone could have caused the birds stress, leading to their deaths.

Stress contributes to a lot of bird deaths, whether it be from a new environment or from some other factor, if the birds have been bred in an aviary and then placed in a cage it will take them a considerable period to adapt to their new environment. In some cases they never adapt and are continuously nervous and flighty.

For all the birds to die at once is an unusual occurrence as you almost always get one bird that is much stronger than the others and tends to survive, so there could be another factor that we are not aware of.

It's sometimes very hard to understand why these deaths occur as it can be a combination of things that contribute to the cause.

There are many posts on the forum relating to bird death, if you search for "deaths" or "bird deaths" this may help you to form a conclusion.

Finally I hope this hasn't put you or your son off keeping Zebras and I'm sure we will be able to find you a member that can assist you in finding another pair.

    Best of luck.

    Gary.
