  1. Hi Helen,

I recently purched a couple of 5mtr lengths and from memory they cost £5.00 each, you can get them from any local plastics supplier.

I didn't use them for what Mark has, but it's a great idea.

Sorry if I jumped on your post Mark.

  2. Over the last week or so I decided to put a couple of pairs of normals together to test the water so to speak .

One pair went down straight away and are now sitting on four eggs. The other pair however were being a little more difficult to please, despite giving them a really nice nest box to use, they continued to reject all it's niceties.

I tried putting the nest in virtually every place I could possibly think of, but to no avail, I even tried a nest pan on the floor as a last resort.

It then came to me that once whilst I was visiting Jeff a while back he told me how some of his birds preferred a nest box without a lid, this got me thinking, so I removed the nest box and proceeded to take a Stanley knife to the lid to remove it. I returned the nest box minus lid and stood back to watch what happened... and to my amazement it worked. The cock bird started to pick-up nesting material and proceeded to build a nest.

This morning I looked in and the hen had laid her first egg, it just goes to show that persistence pays off and you should never give up trying, even when you think you've been beaten.

Many thanks for the tip Jeff. :) :) :) :)

  3. I have had egg eaters in the past and I have tried virtually everything to cure them with little or no success.

The only thing that can be done if they are good birds is to remove the egsg before they get chance to eat them. This way you can place them under another pair.

Once they get the taste it's very difficult to stop them.

  4. Well done Keiron,

As Mark has said Normal hens are in great demand at the moment so if you've breed a quality bird then it's an added bonus.

Looking forward to seeing the pictures.

    Gary.

  5. Nice bird Paul, I've had a really close look at the photo and I like the way her head is contestant with her body, by that I mean the way everything comes together to get what they call the tennis ball effect.

    How old is she?

    Gary.
