  1. You received the warning points because you re-linked to the site even though I had removed it and put (Link removed as some of the content on this site is considered to be not suitable for minors) in it's place.

KareemSerry also received warning points for asking you to re-link it, which you did.

As the two of you did not read or ignored the message I placed in your post, the warnings were issued to reinforce the rules.

I could have banned both of you, but I didn't..........

    Gary.

  2. I Think you need to look at that website again, yes the main content of the page was about zebras, but if you take the time to look at the links and additional information you will find more than just information about Zebra Finches.

As the administrator, part of my role is make sure that the content of this site is safe and viewable for all ages. Something that you may not consider offensive, may be offensive to others, that's why I read every post and remove, hide or delete content that transgresses the rules.

We have rules and I encourage everyone to read them, this is the first time I have had to give warning points in 5 years.......

  3. As promised here are some photos of the led light strips that I'm using in the two test cages.

The ones on the left are the double banked strips and I've got two 12" pieces length ways across a double breeder.

The ones to the right are the single strips and I've placed four 7" pieces width ways across another double breeder.

The picture shows both sets with and without the rubber outside covering.

This photo shows a strip ready to be fitted after the cable has been fitted.

I also plan to convert this kit, purchased from Ikea to add a remote dimmer purchased from ebay, total cost £16.00 and a couple of pence for the additional connectors.

  4. Hi Paul,

I can't believe the difference in the light compared to fluorescents and normal mono filaments, the LED's make everything look dull and yellow in comparison.

Lee, the programmer I'm using was quite expensive, but it does everything, you can even set the intensity on each bank of LED's and the duration of the dusk to dawn and it was less than half the price of a Sun 5 from sunrise aviculture.

I'll post some photos later in the week.

  5. Hi lee,

I see that you have got separate dimmers on each cage with a timer as well, do you have a dusk to dawn facility?

I'm using two types of led's that I made up myself, they both have a rubber sleeve on the outside to make it easier for cleaning.

  6. I just thought I'd share something new that I have started to experiment with in my set-up.

I've been looking into the use of led lighting and realised that no one has developed anything that can be used in a bird room, so as a test, I've purchased a sophisticated timer that is capable of running three separated timed circuits and also has the capability of running dusk to dawn on all three zones.

As part of the test I have equipped two double breeders with two different types of led's which I've cut to length and stuck to the top of each cage using the self adhesive strips that they come with. One of the main benefits of using led's is that everything will run off one 12v power supply, which means that you can run an entire set-up, including all your cages for less that the cost of one light bulb. They can also be dimmed which means that you don't need two light sources if you are using fluorescents.

So far the birds seem to love them as they are nice and bright and you don't get the constant flicker that you get from fluorescents, even at a very high kelvin.  Birds can still see the flicker that fluorescents give off as they are more susceptible to it than humans.

My plan is to record a short video showing each cage along with the installation of the led's, I will also provide further information on the controller that I am using together with the technical ins and outs.

  7. Welcome to the forum Lee.

That was a really good read and I think you have something in common with a lot of our members.

Please feel free to ask as many question as you like as I for one am looking forward to hearing how things progress.

As Andy has said in previous posts take a look at the members map as there's one or two excellent breeders in your neck of the woods.

    Good luck with the birds.
