  1. Thanks Paul and Mark. There is only about an inch of nesting material in with them. Once they start laying eggs i don't give them anymore. I have never seen signs of them feather picking each other. So I think they are okay at the moment with that. Now having the other pair i'm hoping to get them on the same schedule in case this happens again. Also...could someone look at my gallery pics. and tell me your thoughts of what kind of zebra my White finch is.......thanks for all info....helps me out lots....Rick

  2. Can anyone tell me what kind of Hen I have in my pic. gallery? She's the white one. The lady I got her from said she was selling them as creams but then she was told they were penguins. I wanted to add white to my colors and thought she looked good. Thanks....

  3. Hey Mark,Thanks for the response. From what I have read from the searches I've done on them I thought you were suppose to give them a rest after a few clutches. I have been thinking that taking the nest out started this behavior. They did fine on their first two clutches. Having the parents and the 10 babies I just didn't want to get over run with them. I sold the babies faster than I thought though so I didn't really have to worry about it. Built a 2x2x4 ft. cage for the babies now so think that is going to help. Hopefully they will get back on track after this or the next clutch.I always have the cuttle bone in their cages. They get fruit and veggies just about everyday. This is the first time that the eggs have came up missing. Was wondering if maybe they buried them in the nesting material. I use that cotton nesting from the pet store. Don't know if that's the best thing to use. They did keep sitting on the one egg so it did hatch at the time it was suppose to. They sat on it for about 2 days before the new one was laid. I really thought they weren't going to feed it because of the new eggs and I did notice that it didn't look like their was food in his "crop" (is it). I do have the other pair but thought just having the new female and my male only being 6 months old that putting the baby in with them was a long shot of them raising it.Thanks for the info. It's good to know that not everyone gives them a break unless if the need arises.

  4. I have a pair of zebra's that I bought at the start of the year. I let them have 2 clutch's, the first ended up with 5 eggs and 5 babies, the second they had 6 eggs and 6 babies but found one at the bottom of the cage so ended up with 5. I took the nest out to give them a break for a few months. Put it back in and she laid 4 eggs about a week after sitting on them I looked in one morning and saw that there was only one. Just thought that maybe for some reason they weren't fertile but left the one egg. The following day I looked in to find another egg by the end of the week there was a total of 6 with one being the older egg. Two days ago the one older egg hatched. Been keeping an eye on the lil guy and it doesn't look like they are feeding him. Are they not going to pay any mind to the lil guy or are they going to pay attention to their new 5 eggs. This is only my third clutch and this is my first problem. Not really sure what to do. Now, I do have another pair but the male is from my very first clutch and the female I bought is suppose to be around 2 years old. Just wanted to add that the first pair I bought I ended up with 3 normal gray cocks and 2 fawn hens from the first clutch and the second had another 3 normal grays and what I think was 2 silver hens. I think i'm hooked on the lil guys.

  5. Just wanted to stop in and say hello. I'm here in Fort Wayne, Indiana in the U.S. I have 2 pairs of zebra's. First pair I bought was in Jan. of this year and have had great luck with them. I let them have two clutch's and of course had to keep a male from my first clutch and just got him a wife (lol) a few weeks ago due to having sold all of his friends. No eggs from them yet (don't think he's old enough yet) but he sure does try every morning here lately. Built a cage for the young ones (when i had them) 2x2x4 ft. and they seemed to love it. It looks like everybody here helps out with questions very well. Have posted a problem I am having at the moment on other forums and have had no help whatsoever. So am going to post it here in the breeding section. Hopefully i will get some helpful answers but it might be to late now. Anyway, well post some pics. as soon as read how to do it here. Thanks for having me......
