Ive acquired a black cheek hen who got splayed leg from poor perching and i put the bandaid on her, shes in a cage but all shes doing is sleeping on top perch. Is it okay to leave her in the cage or but her in the aviary? should i put another bird in with her for company?

Any Idea on that mutation of the "White beak" ??

Thanks trevor.
Are they hens?

Dark orangish

Its pure white with tear drop. The beak is red and the legs are orange.

Whenever she goes to the bath all her underfeathers like disappear and only her skin is showing, why? It never happened with the others
-
I bought it in a petshop. It was in a cage with bc male and bc female. I bought the male, theres also more whites (no tear drops) and two whites with tear drops so the manager told me to pick the whiter one as the other was dirtyish looking. Its tail markings look more visable than my cfw's.

At first it looked like a hen, no breast, cheek markings etc. only lately I noticed it has an almost fully red beak. Ill upload pics later of this bird and my hen cfw.

Budgies will destroy zebras nests and also take toes off. I had a budgie who went after parents but when they had chicks the chicks were left unharmed for some reason.
If i manage to build a bigger birdroom sometime i might consider other species like canaries, diamond doves etc.

She seems to be in better form lately:)

Emmy I'm considering following in your footsteps by having a mixed aviary and was wondering how often do your DD's lay eggs, like do they lay when you don't want to etc.

So the little one ended up in the bath and was completely soaked it looked like she had no under feathers so after and while under the heating lamp she is now dried and finally flying after more than a month of no flight. Vitamins will still be given for a little while so hopefully she's all good.

Welcome to the forum.
I also keep zebras in a shed (two flight cages)
Im currently having the same problem as im reaching 20 birds with 11 eggs left and the mother isnt one bit happy.
Any questions just ask as we were all beginners once.

Based on the Genetic adviser there's a good chance of getting normal but I wouldn't lose hope as there's always a possibility.
As pair 3 manages to have two dark skin chicks and two light skin chicks so there's always a chance.

So my CFW hen whose flight feathers appear to be stuck to the quill almost as if it was drownded. I have her in a small cage with water, bath, water with johnsons vit-min,food and eggfood with different veg (curly kale, brocalli) shes currently hopping about eating/drinking normally and going poop regulary. It all began while she was raising 3 chicks.
-
Ive now idea as the normal male and bc male may have splits which im unaware of but for the bb male and fawn pied female i could get some fawn, pieds or normal split for fawn and pied.
Looks like you should have lovely chicks too
-
So there's six birds in the aviary
1:Fawn pied female X black breast male/pied
2: fawn pied/bb female X normal male
3: grey pied/bb female X bc male
Pair 3 have 4 chicks all well
Pair 2 Have 4 eggs
Pair 1 has five eggs
Hopefully all or most will be fertile as this would be best breeding season ive had

Lighter skin colour means it is a different mutation white, fawn etc and if the beak is brown then its a fawn

Ive bred my fawn pied with normal grey black breast and the outcome was fawn pied female (light fawn in colour) grey pied female and a normal male. Fawn is a sex link mutation so that female shouldnt be fawn.
as if that wasn't already puzzling that fawn female is paired with a normal grey black cheek whose 3 out of 4 eggs hatched and one appears to be a fawn( brownish beak, lighter skin tone) hopefully it turns out to be a male.
Any idea on why the fawn pied is a female not a male when the mother was fawn?

I gotta admit if it wasnt for the newly weaned chicks nobody would be eating it. Gotta love the chicks curiosity
Thanks guys ill try all your ideas

I was nervous my first time doing it but theres not much to it really. Like cutting your own nails as emmy said.
