So I bought eggfood the powder kind and it doesn't say how much to use or mix until soaked or barely wet. Also does it take zebs long to get use to eating it?
-
Fawn is a sex link so the male would be split as females can't be split. With zebras you never really know what you get
-
A Brown beak means the chick is a fawn mutation. Nice looking budgie you got there aswell.
-
Pied is a recessive gene and fawn is sex linked so if no other mutations then you may end up with some pied

black cheeks tear markings cant be seen as its all black but I'm not sure about the grey cheeks as I currently don't have any so maybe other members may know.

There's 11 birds so far with Three more pairs still to go before breedings over for another year.
Pair one is Black Cheek male X Grey pied female who laid one egg this morning
Pair two is Normal and fawn pied who is still currently completing the nest
Pair three is BB male and Fawn Pied who is sitting on 4 eggs due to hatch in a few days time.
-
It depends on what for because I've bred a bb split male with a cfw and gotten three bb chicks.
-
That bird has the hourglass markings so its split for black breast.

Look at the tail feathers and if there horizontal there BB and if there hourglass shaped there split for BB.
as for the Bf the tear markings should be thicker than normal.
-
I'm not quite sure on some of these mutations so any help is appreciated.
My Recent 3 fledglings which are black breasts
Then theres my Bc normal
My Cfw
Fawn pied female and BB male
My Normal
My fawn pied ( this years )
Grey pied
The Fawn pied and Black Breast male bred the normal grey, the fawn pied and the grey pied.
Then normal male from that clutch was paired up with the CFW and produced the 3 BB chicks in the first 3 pics.
Now the BC normal is paired up with the grey pied hen while the fawn pied is paired up with a new normal male
-
Chick 1 definitely has Black cheek genes and Chick 2 just needs abit more time to feather up as its showing the throat stripes that males have.
-
Black Breast have tear marks but there thinner than normal and if you look at the tail feathers they are either like hourglass shaped if the birds split for black breast or the tail has horizontal stripes.
Welcome to the forum Chantel

When the tear marks fade into the cheek patch it means its split to BC. Others might be able to tell you more.

My pair in the outside flight had three chicks two of which fledged today and i notice one's feathers around the breast area has black tips. The mother is Cfw and the father is normal but was produced from a bb male and a fawn pied female.
-
Not to bad seeing as i paid 25 euro for mine in a kinda expensive petshop.
-
How much would you expect to pay for a black cheek?
-
I was in that much of a rush to get the black cheek home i forgot all about it
Was thinking of pairing it up to a pied whose grey on the back and kinda fawnish underneath

The one day I go to buy seed i check the finch's as usual just to waste time and see if there's any new ones and that was grand until i see this particular one ( in picture) Only for my mother was with me I wouldnt have been so lucky to get a black cheek. That was grand anyway the girl in the shop was new and never caught a pet bird before so she was trying and trying so i offered to help and voila I managed to catch him so looks like theres a good first impression if i want a job there
