One of my BCCFW cock birds has been bold at the back of his neck since I bought him back last summer, at the time I was hoping it was just moult but it's not growing back, any suggestions?

Thanks for reply Andy
She seems to look worse every day. You can now see the quills going up the wing. I'm trying everything I can at the moment but I can't seem to bio this one in the bud!!

Hi all. One of my penguin hens is very tatty looking. I suspect feather mite.
The tail feathers are almost non existent and what's left is very tatty
If I spread her wings the feathers also look damaged
I've tried treatment with johnsons anti mite but if anything it's got worse.
What else can I try?

The white eggs will be the fertile ones and the pale grey would suggest dead in shell?
All nest boxes should be at the same height which should eliminate there being a "best" nest box. There should also be more boxes than pairs so they can pick which ones they want to nest in
I suspect they were over fit and just wanting to get on with laying the next round and too impatient to incubate and rear the ones they already had

Really nice bird chris, very jealous!!

Hi Emmy.
There seems to be really good stock up for grabs at the bird sale. I'm hoping to pick up some more phaeo stock this month
-
Nice looking pair there Dan, what colours do you breed.
Cheers Dan
Hi dan
I breed CFW, BC, penguin and phaeo
I'm all done breeding now until the spring

Oops I've duplicated some pics. How can I get rid of them?
Done it!

What age do you seperate chicks from their parents? Mine are 35 days old and still begging for food but do pick stuff up themselves
-
Dan,
I think Alan BT thought you had pulled them when he said 6 weeks to regrow but I think mite damage doesn't get repaired as the blood flow to the feather has receded back down the quill. Super Mite should do the trick though.
The other birds haven't been pulling the tatty tail one around have they?
Oh right, no I haven't pulled them. I've sprayed her with johnsons anti mite and I'll do it again in 5-7 days and hope there's an improvement.
The hen was only housed with her mate and I never saw any pulling going on. I'm not sure if it's linked or if you remember my post but the cock bird has droopy wings? They don't sit tight like they should do

Hi Allan. I need to get to the pet store to get some more spray. I've inly done the offending bird at the moment.
Andy, no I haven't, should I pull them out?

Hi all. One of my new penguin hens I bought about 2 weeks ago is slowly losing her tatty tail feathers. I have spread the wings and had a look they all look tatty but not as bad as the tail.
I have seperated her and sprayed her with johnsons anti mite extra (pump spray bottle) is there anything else I should do to help her to a speedy recovery?
How long for the tail feathers to come back?

Having never fostered any chicks/eggs I was unsure how successful Bengies rear Zebs but they seem to do a really good job
I may just have to buy a pair just in case

Ok thanks Paul

I have purchased some penguin breeding stock this year. I hope to get some nice chicks from them next year. I'm in hampshire

Evening all. I've got 2 chicks left the nest about 4 days ago but not quite feeding themselves yet. The problem I've got is the cock bird is very aggressive towards the hen as I'm assuming he wants to go down for another round. Question is I'm going to split them up but who do I leave the chicks with, mum or dad??
-
No it's an adult/young bird Andy. I'm going to transfer him to one of my flight cages in the hope a little bit of exercise and extra flying space will do him some good. I will monitor this over the winter and see how he is come spring and decide whether or not to use him in my breeding scheme
-
I'm really not sure Andy. I bought them from my local bird sale. The guy I bought them from was rushed off his feet and I forgot to ask him. They are fully coloured up and only affecting the cock bird

What can cause this in a zebra?

Well as it turns out I've moved my birds over to panicum and instead of wasting most if the foreign finch mix I was feeding, there's now no waste at all and the babies seem to be being fed better on this aswell. Thanks everyone for the advice
-
My birds waste an incredible amount of the foreign finch mix I feed them. I will try feeding panicum alone for a while and see if there's any change. I have a few pairs on eggs/chicks at the moment aswell

Generally speaking, warmth and quiet is normally enough to bring a sick bird round (if it's not serious) A diet of soaked millet and egg food should aid recovery. Maybe caught a chill?
I add a general tonic to the drinking water to help give then a boost.
