  1. What 'Bobby said' is what actually happened. It wont happen again!! lol Emmy
  2. I will be difficult to sell them if I do get any young from them but I'll have to do that. Don't have any more space (or money!!) left to build yet another bird shed Emmy
  3. I thought they were parrolettes too when I first saw them but the breeder told me lots of people make that mistake and they are definitely the smallest of the love bird parrots. I have read up about them and it seems they are quite rare birds and could be difficult to breed. I was also told not many people breed that variety here in Scotland. So its going to be a case of 'fingers crossed' Emmy
  4. Another new variety to my bird shed. (Agapornis Canus) ie the Madagastar lovebird parrot. I was told they are the smallest parrots. They are about the same size as the zebra finch but have a much wider wing span therefore can fly very quickly (guess that will make it more difficult to catch them (lol) ) They seem to be very nervous little birds so I'll try to keep them in a quiet area for a while. I can pair them together April/May so fingers crossed I'll get some chicks. The cock birds have the silver head and hens are shades of green. ( Photo doesn't do them justice) Emmy
  5. Andyn So far the cockatiels are louder than Bobby- I think he'll 'talk' more than squawk' (fingers crossed lol) mind you there are more of the cockatiels (lol) When I had Bobby out about lunch time he?she? did come onto my arm (1st time) so I'm pleased about that. It's early days yet he needs to get used to his new surroundings and I was advised to leave him in the cage he came in for about 2 weeks ( providing he gets out of the cage every day to have a fly about) One thing for sure Bobby likes its food.- that's how I get him back into his cage (Simples) Emmy
  6. (lol) Trevor I think If I got a 'gong' it would be from my family -- using it to give me a knock on my head to put some sense into my brain' Re Elizabeth ? Well no way would I go to Buckingham Palace- but if she wanted to call in on her way to Braemar I would let her see the my birds and maybe even give her a coffee. The 'Gong' Nah!! Just all the more things for my family to clear out later on Add in C&A that's No! No! too. Public Zoo ??? so far all my visitors get in free and coffee/tea included. Wouldn't want to make it too public in case I got evicted Now David Attenborough Yes he could come (I like him) but not to make a programme! He could come and help me tidy up and help clean out the cages etc. Gary That photo is sooo nice. think Rabelou would probably appreciate that but he already has a 'Mistress ' two in fact. One is my S-I-Ls King Charles- who gets locked in her cage whenever Rabelou enters my S-I-Ls house. The other 'mistress' he has is his BIG cushion. Guess it wont be long until there is a new breed of cushion puppies running around here . I sat last night and made out another list of clues but didn't get around to posting them SO!! Andyn Top of the Class!!! ***** The missing word is Bolivian. After having really good laugh at all the brilliant guesses (Thank You All for that) Finally here is Bobby who already a few stories to tell. So keep checking!
  7. I'm finding it difficult to type my sides are sore with laughing I know there are lots of fields and farm animals where I live but I doubt if I'd like to come face to face with 'Belgian Blue' though to get him in that condition someone must love him (lol) BUT one point to you 'Andrew' you did get ONE word correct -'blue' Forgot to say that Gary got quite close to the last two words on one of his posts! Emmy
  8. Well Done Andy!! (That's for your imagination) Was this the one you were thinking about ? Like you Andy -this one didn't get it right either guess it should have picked a different number. (lol) Now here is another clue: What could it be that I would give it the name -Bobby? and to make it easier I'm giving you all the initials: (Bobby's name is not included) B B F A P the first B is a foreign country now that should make it easier.
  9. Nah! --Cold Andrew! very cold! but your photographs are just wonderful.
  10. (LOL) No! No! No! Penny that would be a wee bit too big for my garden - but maybe worth thinking about one? It could put its trunk down and lift me up and I wouldn't get any more lectures about why I shouldn't be using stepladders. I've never said that 'African' was the clue Emmy
  11. Why I don't know, but when I did that post I was thinking of the 'Tay' (At least the road bridge is open again lol) Emmy
  12. Wrong again Gary its not a pair of African Greys. (How I wish that had been correct!) Dave I do have an empty rabbit hutch and I'd have loved it to have been a rabbit but it's not. (Maybe in the future) Steve I already have a miniature goat but it's in France couldn't sneak it onto the aeroplane coming home (lol) my miniature goat! p.s. I don't like goat's milk!!
  13. Sorry Guys nowhere near. But there is a clue in some of the words you used Andyn. Oh! I would have loved it to be a horse but there is no way I'd get on its back - poor thing would have a sore back if I did that but the photo you attached was just right if it had been a horse it would have been in the house if it could have managed through the door (lol) Gary I have always thought about having a goose as another type of 'guard dog' to give Rabelou (the Ninja) a rest but not yet! Emmy
  14. Dave I take it you are on the Dundee side then? I'll gladly help you if I can re sources for stock just post me when you want information. Emmy
  15. Welcome to the forum Dave. I'm in Scotland too(lol) Hope you get your aviary finished soon What colours/mutations of zebra finches are you hoping to get? Please keep us posted how you get on. Emmy
  16. Trevor that is a really nice bird, love that colour. If you manage to breed a male that colour what colour would you expect the cheek patches and the flanks to be? Emmy
  17. Just an update. There's been a vanishing act in the inside flight. No eggs now in the diamond dove's nest. No eggs on floor of inside flight, no broken egg shells either. This happened last year too when the diamond doves had laid eggs in a nest in the outside flight. Today I noticed my 4 cockatiels that are in the aviary, looking into all the nest boxes that are in the outside flight . (I'm bringing in those nest boxes because I don't want any birds to begin nesting there ) I'm thinking its the cockatiels that may be stealing the eggs from the nests. Emmy
  18. I have 5 Diamond Doves in my aviary with zebra finches, canaries and 4 cockatiels. Plenty room for them all. A pair of my diamond doves decided to build a nest but the area they picked couldn't have been more unsuitable. There's plenty of other safe areas in the inside flight but they chose this tiny corner in the inside flight and Yes! they have eggs in that tiny nest. Every time I check the birds I expect to find the eggs on the floor but so far they seem to be OK. It may be a different situation if the eggs hatch I doubt if chicks would stay in that tiny space. My next job will be to fix up something below the nest to catch any chick that may fall out (if they do hatch)and have something warm inside that container just in case it falls out during the night. (I have just bought some hand warmers that keep warm for 10 hours -(not plugged into any electrical supply or batteries so that may work) Emmy

    expanding outlook

Penny you said -"This bird keeping hobby is taking over" guess you should have been warned when you bought your first zebra finch they have a of habit of hypnotising you so the next time you visit a pet store you can't leave without buying a little feathered friend. Sorry to inform you that there is no cure for this and it lasts a lifetime. Emmy
  20. They look absolutely gorgeous Trevor and they look as though they are being well fed too. Have you still more eggs to hatch out yet? Emmy

    Crested Penguins

I have used a canary pan before in the quiko cages for a pair of Bengalese but this time I put the nest box on the door so I could keep a check on progress I can look in without disturbing the birds. problem with that though is you cant put a bath up. Emmy

    Crested Penguins

They now have 3 eggs in their nest (would have been 4 but I removed the one with the double yolk) but no sign of them incubating the eggs as yet. I have then in a single Quiko cage and I was thinking I would perhaps be better changing the cage and rehoming them in a double breeder? Do you think this would make any difference to them breeding successfully? Emmy

    Crested Penguins

Unfortunately the previous clutch of eggs my penguins had didn't hatch - don't really know what happened because the eggs were fertile but embryos didn't survive (that was the clutch where one of the eggs had a double yolk.) They now have laid some more eggs and one of those eggs is another with a double yolk. Is this a common thing to happen? Emmy

    Help! Unknown illness

Hi Zeb So sorry to hear about what happened with Jimmy. It's heart breaking when something like this happens because we do get attached to those little birds. Unfortunately I have no idea what could have caused this but I just wanted you to know I understand why you are trying your hardest to discover the reason for Jimmy's death. I'm sure one of the members may be able to give you some advice. Hope all your other birds will be OK. Please keep us posted. Emmy
