i dont think you can beat plastic ones ...after the initial purchase you have got them for life ,they clean up like new time after time ....supapets sell them and if you buy a box full the price comes down a bit

perhaps it might be worth putting a pic on here of what you're after ...and where you are in the country?

try a bit of granulated charcoal mixed in with bird grit ...might settle its guts...or if your feeling flush buy a small bottle of oregano stim and add it to the water

happy birthday Gary ...ive told the fire brigade to stand down ...now you've managed to blow all the candles out on your birthday cake

just got myself some black grey bengalese again last week, i had a shed full a few years ago.....they are pretty smart looking birds
-
always worth holding any birds your thinking of buying in your hand ...feel if they have some meat on them ...any with a sharp breast bone i would politely refuse them ... then look at overall feather , bright eyes ,alert ,feet ,nails and around the vent is clean ...if the bird is unmoulted but feeding themselves the age is pretty obvious if not a closed ring is a good indicator ...after that it's only the trustworthiness of the seller.

i guess it was this one that snuffed it ?....sorry to hear about the loss ,but with livestock you do get a bit of deadstock ...but it helps if they are healthy when they are sold to prospective new starters .(that one wasn't!!!)
i like your set up it reminds me of something i had a few years ago at my parents house ...i hope you breed a few over the next few months ...a nice mix of starter birds you have there ..a bit of song ,a bit of cooing ...the zebs of course ..and did i see some quail on the bottom of the flight aswell?

sorry i didn't mean to cause offence ...after all its only a piece of plastic.....just saying the ones from oz were like a childs bead that had been split ......i just gave them away
-
im with allan on this one ...someone bought some for me off ebay (came from oz)...utter crap ..far too chunky ...avian id or supapets ones are miles better

probably fancies going back down to nest again and wants a little nesting material....i would perhaps try putting some in the cage and see what happens

sometimes a bit of trimming feathers around the birds vents does the trick

there's a banner on the feathered flyer forum nick with a link to their website ....might be of help http://www.avianlightinguk.com/

hi nigel
i would say it all depends if you want the birds to look at or to breed?and depending where the cage is being located ...if its just a few birds in a cage i would be tempted to get another pair as two pairs usually end up bickering all the time and dont really set up a pecking order... another pair in there and they will live in harmony ..to be honest if the cage size was then a mini aviary type cage and nest boxes were in you would probably breed some as well.
or if your intention is to just keep the two pairs you have and intend to have a bird room or shed??...then separate cages might be best say 24 inch x 16inch x 16 inch

try mixing a crushed hard boiled egg up with your emp and see how you go on ......dont add any water just use the moisture what's in the egg to soften the emp ....
