  1. Hi

In Penguin Zebra finches the Mutation belongs to the recessive mutation group and it takes two forms regardless of back ground colour i.e Normal, Fawn or other.

The first form is called A Visual bird which has two copies of the penguin gene one from each parents and the mutation is manifested in a visual manner.

The other we call a split, this bird has only one copy of the mutation Gene inherited from the one parent who also has the mutated Gene and has passed it to the young bird.

  2. Hi

When breeding I give it 3 or 4 times a day to pairs with chicks 3 fork fulls and when none breeding I give it two or three times a week a heaped fork full per bird.

Its also nice to mix different stuff into it such as a bit of tonic seed or green food such as Spinach, Curly Kale or anything else your birds seem to like, but becareful not to let any egg food spoil in the cage.

  3. Hi Baz

Nice birds They should make the show bench.

    Hi Emmy.

believe it or not there is no requirement for size on the show bench, a polished pair in great feather and condition who closely match each other and go some way towards the standard should do better than a larger pair of lesser birds.

  4. Hi

Sorry for the late reply i'm working far to much these days.

In a Blackface hen the white in between the beak and tear mark is not white but the same colour as the body colour, and the under side of the body is less white than a none BF bird, in a cock the bird will be a lot blacker than a normal birds.

Below you can see a couple of young Bf's i bred a few year back now you can see what i mean about the colour hope you dont mind me posting it on your thread.

  5. Hi

I think your cock bird is a BB Fawn/Florida fancy as he is very dirty in Colour , if he was a full Florida fancy i would expect him to be cleaner in Body colour.

A Florida fancy is a different mutation to a Isabel which is Recessive where as a Florida fancy is in fact Co Dominant , this means that although the Florida fancy mutation is inherited just like the Isabel mutation, the Split birds have a effect on the colour of the bird with it being washed out as apposed to the full Florida fancy which is whiter in colour.

Double factor only applies to The Dominant mutation group such as Black face,Dominant Dilute "Silver & Cream" and Cheeked.

  6. Hi Gary

I swapped my fathers setup from Fluorescents to Led tubes some time ago, he still uses the same Sunrise Aviculture  lighting controller as before this uses a separate bulb for dimming and night light, the light given by the Led's is much more like natural light than the old Fluorescents .
