I see what you mean Emmy, its hard to tell that the markings are more dark brown rather than black. Nice looking bird though!!
And thank for the tip Andy!

Ahh I see. Thats cool.
I probably didn't phrase it very well... its been an odd day to say the least. I meant the breast bars, cheek and flank markings become chocolate-y in colour rather than black... so I was partially right but rather than chocolate its more almost black-brown markings by the sounds of it Thanks for the help!
I hope whatever is worrying you, gets better!

I saw a simulation of what this bird would look like...
Fawn in body colour which chocolate markings (In place of breast, cheek and flank markings).
However Ive heard that the genes don't quite interact like that when BC is present on a Fawn bird.
Ive searched for pictures does anyone have pictures or an explanation as to how this bird would look?
E-finch "The fawn mutation changes the normal gray and black coloring to a light brown or fawn coloring with dark brown markings." Would imply this is how it would works, but Ive heard differently? :/ Im confused! lol

Aww thats sweet really : ) Thanks for the answers!

I have 2 boys in a cage on there own. (A normal and blackcheek).
I have never seen them fight, or be agressive in any way to each other. Every morning they mate! Is this normal for 2 boys? Its not jst one of them, I have seen them both do it to the other one. Is it just a dominance thing? The Black Cheek is about 9 months younger (I would guess). And before they do, they generally sing together and do the whole tail wag thing as well. Anyone have any comments?

Just spotted this! Thank you!

Yeah the one next to him is just a normal grey. And a great deal bigger too! But I think thats an age thing. Pretty sure the BC is still a youngster but he does have lovely black flank markings. I will try and get a front view picture when hes settled a bit more. : )

Found him in the Petshop today and had to have him! Still a bit flighty, when he settles Ill try and get a better picture!

Ahh. I wasnt too sure what age the colours would have started showing. Now its just to think of a name : )
As far as standard goes, how 'good' would you say she is? Ive read bits into it but dont really get the shape parts to them. My 4 (now 5) all are pretty similar only my CFWs being a little smaller.

Congrats!! Sooo adorable!

Mummy and baby. How much longer do you guys recon till his/her adult feathers come out? Hatched on the 26th Feb - so is around a month and a half old. They're so cute : )
-
Sorry I havent been on here in ages! Will get pics up hopefully this evening

I took the nest out and cleaned out the cage. And the 3 of them (mummy/daddy and baby) are doing great. Glad to hear yours are doing well too!!

Its the first creature Ive ever brought into the world (well helped into the world). Its so amazing Yeah I will do, my book says 4days after he can fly to take it out but I think your right to be more observant than date specific. Thanks
-
P.S Ignore the above post. Left him and he got back home anyways. Had a few little goes at flying (he is sooo cute!) Hes stuck his head out the nest today dunno if hes gunna try again but hes doing well : )
-
So 16days old... and hes on the floor of the cage. Not too sure whether hes fallen or pushed but mummy seems to be checking on him occasionally - Ive been out all day and just found him. Bless him he looks so lost XD So basically... whats should be my plan now? He doesnt seem to be trying to fly. However I was going to leave him for the time being. But when it gets to "bedtime" should I help him into the nest or leave him to sleep on the floor?
-
Yeah thats what I thought, I just remembered people saying its near impossible to tell if there male or female till the adult feathers come through. But thats awesome - hopefully meaning hes a happy chicky singing away in his nest. : ) There such interested birds. I love to watch them! And its amazing to be able to watch there life cycle
-
Something I also realized today; Pretty sure instead of calling for food, sometimes the chick is singing... it sounds very similar to the males song. Do all chicks do this or could this be a sign that the chick is a male?
-
Mine is looking a lot like an adult now : ) Feathers are all coming through. My CFW pair laid an egg yesterday too but I dont have much hope for theirs to hatch. The very skitty - you only have to change there seed for them to fly around there cage like looney's. But ya never know. They actually seemed more settled this morning. I dont have enough room for many more cages at the moment... looks like some of the birdies are gonna have to move in with my nan for the time being.
-
Aww thats awesome... hope they all survive for you : ) Pretty sure mine is 10days today. So excited to see him/her come out the nest! Yourll have to get some pictures of the cuties when there out the nest.
-
I did think that may be why... but just wanted to be sure. I did get a bit worried as Ive never heard him/her being that quiet lol. Ill be gald when it starts making an appearance outside the nest lol. Thanks : )
-
Well the little chicky seemed ok last night. But today I have only heard it chirp once and it was rather quiet. Its moved in the nest since but just generally seems to be really quiet. Is this normal for a 8day old chick? :/
-
Aww there so cute! Congrats!

There alright I keep wanting to have a nosey but dont want to disturb them! But they're sounding louder each day. And mummy and daddy seem to be doing a good job.How many do you think you have? Im no expert (its my first clutch) but Ive heard some may hatch a day or two before some of the others due to laying day/time specially in larger clutches. Perhaps this is the case.
