  1. i have a cock bird that developed a overgrown beak and i have to trim it every 2 weeks or so it really does grow quicklyhe raised 2 rounds last year and no chicks bred show any signs of beak problemsi would say if its one of your better birds breed with it if its not get rid

  2. i have had a few over the years, but have never cured a bird of it im afraid,if its a good bird you want to breed from check the nest box each day and remove any eggs for fostering outas quite often the eggs a few days old before being eaten

  3. well every october my hens seem to go into egg laying mode and sure enough over the last week or 10 days they have started laying eggs all over the place, not sure if this is due to wetter weather at this time of year triggering them or if an inbuilt instinct or whatever but i am pretty sure you would have good results pairing this time of yeari quite often pair a couple of pairs up at this time for a bit of interest during winter, usually older birds or good birds that have produced nothing in previous pairing and results are more often than not goodcheers dave

  4. do you have many silver lightbacks jeff as i am trying to breed a few myself and very few about good to see someone else with themgenetics not my strong point with these blackcheeks ect.. but you seem to have a few to work with and wish you well breed ing some blackcheek silver lightbacksgood luck mate

  5. Hi,I have used pro-bird for three years, Dad tried kings, good and a lot cheaperbut now we have gone back to pro-bird, the birds seem better for it.
hi lauren, opened the kings today and it looks a good mix although some seeds a little bigger than the pro bird i suppose the proof will be how the birds take to iti think the thing to do is pre order the pro bird and pick it up from stafford you get a discount with it being a sales day and you save a load on postageif i go to stafford might get a few bags as it is the best i have used the birds loved it very little waste and they looked good on ithaiths was a very clean mix but got a lot of wate for some reason

  6. as the title says... i like the probird zeb mix but its getting a tad expensive (don't you think?) ...although theres not much wastage...also tried batleys own mix (cheap as chips with tradecard 9.50 plus vat) but i felt like it kept them alive but not much else ..i suppose austere diet comes to mind??...i've heard of a place in golburn near wigan(blue sky feeds) that sell versa laga for £15 quid a sack so i might give them a try next i think same mix their own (from bamfords?) ..might give that a go...what quantity do you buy??over to you guys...jeff
hello jeff good to see you on here, the pro bird zeb mix is without doubt the best seed i have used but as you say is very expensive so i started to get bamfords foreign finch from taylors choice in crewe i have always liked bamfords and this is a very good mix no waste from the zebs i have heard really good things about kings this is a belgian mix the same as probird so ordered a couple of bags from supapets and they got here today will have a look at it tomorrow hoping it will be as good as pro birdwill let you know

  7. numbers wise the best ive had in 20 years quality wise i will have to wait and see, this season more about breeding a few birds to work with after last years house move and low numbers of young bred i think they were getting a bit closley related as fertilty was getting poor and poor at rearing also,i fetched more birds into the shed than ever before in an attempt to freshen things up a bit and its worked a treat.i have been assesing the birds over the last couple of weeks to see what birds have improved things and what has not worked but definatley a few to work with so all in all probably a succsess even if no world beaters

  8. sorry you had a bad year mate stick with it and things will pick upthe crap breeding seasons make the good ones even betterheres hoping you breed some late belterskeep your chin up paldave
