Agree with paul it suffocates the mites only had a handfull of birds in 30 years with this and have treated all with vasoline other treatments may be a little quicker though but vasoline works well

i have used several types of conifer without any problems you wouldn't need much from your neighbors tree to furnish a cage though Dan

you can either rough your dowel perches up or use fruit tree or conifer branches to give a better grip

i have said it many times before im sure september/october is the best time of year to start breeding in this country weather is still mild and it starts to get wetter seems to spring birds into action
i have paired a few up over last couple of weeks fingers crossed

The main thing you have done right imo is get the head right nice rise of the top of the beak
I would pair the father to the best normal hen you can obtain next time concentrating on trying to fix his nice head quality and attempting to improve on the colouring even more

Very nice birds Graham bred a few 3 or 4 years ago exhibited them too,one of the nicest colours you can get in my opinion good luck with them

Yes its very normal,the older the chicks get the less parents will spend in box with them they should return to box overnight though
