  6. hi kim,i was starting to lose fertility in my fawns probably getting to closely related so so 3 years ago i bought 6 new fawns in from a couple of recognised fawn breeders to put with my birds to freshen the bloodlines and this has done the trick, fertility much improved and have been working on a couple of lines since. i brought another cock in last year and hope to bring in another one or two this yeari firmly believe in bringing new blood into stud at least every couple of years as in my case fertily has dropped when birds get to closely relatedit seems to improve vigor alsoi would add that this is my view and others might disagree advocating close family lines.dave

sounds like you have a nice set up there kim hope you obtain the birds your looking for enjoy the hobby
  11. the way i read your first post mark was that you would like to breed some darker creams as you feel yours are a little lightcontinue to pair cream to fawn,no need to pair any other way as you already have quite a few creams to play withif your preferance is a darker bird use your darker creams to pair to fawns, however when breeding dilutes results can be quite random in regards to the colour of the offspringyou could pair a dark cream bird to a dark fawn and still breed a cream youngster very pale in colour and perhaps a very dark cream in the same nestits part of the challenge getting a well matched pair on the bench
  12. mark the markings on dilutes should be of a colour in keeping with the overall body colour of the birdso if you had a very light coloured cream you would want light coloured markings in keeping with the lightness of body colourif you had a dark cream you want a bird with darker markings...imo something between the two is ideal with even colour being the main thing to aim fordaveps if your looking to breed darker birds remember by breeding dilutes you are choosing to breed a bird with reduced colour. i would retain the darker creams you breed rather than go out looking for dark fawns remember the range of shades its vast in dilutes and to breed a pair that match perfectly is quite hard so i would be happy to breed a pair that match whatever shade
  13. nice stylish bird paul all cfw hens have dark heads thats how you sex them in the nestmost will moult out much clearer however if you breed a good one with flecking on head i would not discard as nick says they can breed clear birdsi have used a couple of nomal/cfw cock x cfw hen pairs and bred a couple nice cfw hens and my best two normal hens of this year dave

    Normal Cock

usefull birds paul, really good head quality which is vital in show birdsif they are lacking a little in size i would pair a couple of them to big stock hens of any of the mainsteam coloursto try and get a little bit of size in them, giving you at least some normal hens to put back into strainobviously a nice big cobby normal hen with cracking head features would be the ideal choice if you have a few in shedand if you have can you send me a couple good luck with them pauldave

  21. hello sherry all good advice aboveregards softfood if you have a petstore near you just get a commercial eggfood to which you add a few drops of water to slightly moisten iti myself would start feeding it now to get the adults used to it,however dont be alarmed if they dont eat it they can rear youngsters on seed alonegood luck
