  1. Cheers Trevor.

I thought the hen might be cream LB but i haven't got a clue of the male. is he a black breast?

Is the cream still dominant? Paired to a male L/B will i get 50-50? Cream and Normal L/B?

  2. Gutted, I got home from work and inspected the nest there was no chicks they had been kicked out and had been pecked by the cpq. The canary mum and the zeb were still sat on the nest i had to move them to get the nest out. If you don't disurb them you lose the chicks if you look and keep tabs you lose them never win. :cray: . There is 1 canary egg left and 1 zeb egg these look clear and the zeb egg looks like it has been there a while i will check again tomorrow to see if anymore zeb eggs appear. Thanks Pete

  3. Hi Kerry,

I had a look through the window this morning you cannot really see much from this distance but there was a fawn hen sat with canary mum. So I'm thinking they might have either laid or due to lay eggs as well. Now I know there is a hen involved I will inspect the nest to see what's what. I will keep you posted. There are 2 nest directly above this one that are not being used plus others outside empty so why they chose to use one being used is a mystery.

  4. Hi Emmy

It is interesting this one i have another canary come and feed her but she was sold has a hen i was sold 3 yellow canaries with pink rings from a breeder so i do believe they were hens.

The nest pans are for hanging on the outside of cages so should have a back on it but i have taken this off to fit it on the inside, If i remember correctly they were from AWBirds hope the link works http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CANARY-PLASTIC-NEST-PAN-BOX-COMPARTMENT-WITH-COVER-/380609900177?pt=UK_Pet_Supplies_Birds&hash=item589e1e2e91.

    I will keep you posted.

    Thanks

  5. Hi

Here are a couple of pics of one of my zeb's sitting on 4 canary eggs with mum, the canary mum had lined the nest felt with feathers and was sitting her eggs when after about 5 days i noticed the zeb cock was trying to sit with her and nudge her off so he could sit them. She wouldn't budge so next he built the nest around her they have hatched out the first of the four tonight. I know he won't feed them but will this end in disaster and the chicks get kicked out or will he not interfer once they start to grow? These are in the aviary in the inside shed i have more zeb cocks than hens but wouldn't have thought this would have happened, Fingers crossed. Has anyone had anything similar?

I have had gouldians build in a nest box that had bourkes chicks in it, When the chicks hatched there was no nesting material in the nest box by the time they were ready to fledge they were cramed into the nest box because the gouldians had filled the nest box up with nesting material. they both raised their clutch without any problems. :good:
