Welcome back to a fantastic hobby, i'm sure there are plenty of birdkeepers up there in the northwest who will be able to help you out, unfortunately i'm the other end of the country on the Isle of Wight otherwise i could put some your way.

Thanks,
The bird in question is almost identical to the sketch only with light brown cheeks so i assume from what you say it's a fawn cheeked hen, hence the eggs. I'll pair her up this season ( as she's a nice size ) with one of my grey cocks and see what happens. What is a fawn cheeked cock like ??? i'm assuming very similar to a cfw.
Thanks again.

Thanks Emmy,
If you go to the home page, zebraman.co.uk there is a coloured sketch taking up most of the page, this is the bird in question.
thanks

Hi,
I have breed this season what i thought to be a cockbird but this morning on cleaning the cages i've found two egggs, all the other birds are defo cocks. The bird in question is almost identical to the one on the forums home page apart from the cheek patches are more fawn than grey, because of the cheek patches i assumed it was a cockbird. Can you please help me identify this bird. I have now moved it in with the hens.
Cheers

A mix i've found successfull this season is equal parts of EMP rearing food, digestive biscuit, cous cous and bread crumbs.

Hi Paul
Just thought it could be a more natural way of keeping mites at bay instead of using the norm.

Hi all,
Has anyone tried diatomaceous earth as from what i read it has one hundred and one uses when treating nasties external and internal, can be used in bathing water, mixed with food and around the cage and nest boxes. Any feedback would be good before i go and bye some.

Hi All, i'm after some advise on getting some decent size into Black-cheeked zebs, i've got some good size grey's cock's and hens but my Black-cheeks are only normal size and not really suitable to show, what would be the best pairings to get some decent size birds ? can this be achieved in one season ?

Hi all,
What's the easiest way to check for infertile eggs ???
-
Cheers Pete,I couldn't have asked for a more in depth answer, things do appear a lot clearer now, i think my priority now is to get some really decent birds and then start from scratch and hopefully in a couple of seasons be on my way to a reasonable stud to start showing with. So thanks again and if there's anything i'm not sure about i will not hesitate to ask. Thanks Wayne

Thanks Pete, It's a lot more clear now, would you recommend using this type of breeding for zebra finches.Wayne

Hi all Can you please explain to me in layman terms how to line breed as i'm totally confused at the moment.ThanksWayne

Do zebras need to be wormed if kept indoors in breeding cages etc ??

Thanks for all the replys, i'll leave it until april just in case the weather changes for the worse and also keep an eye on there condition.Wayne

When would be the best time to pair up if you have no heat or lighting ??

Why is it some colours carry cheek patches as a standard and others don't ?????????Wayne
-
I would imagine by cock markings would mean Flank marks Chest barring And depending on colour cheek patches As odv bc, grey cheek, fawncheek would be exempt -
Just reading on the ZFS website about pair selection and i'm slightly confused, it states that hens shouldn't carry any of the cocks markings but i thought that black-cheeked hens carry the cheek patch, can anyone clarify this ???Wayne

Hi,i joined the forum first and then the ZFS, just happened that way as i did know the ZFS existed.Wayne

Hi All,I see a lot of you guys/gals have already started to breed and have young either in the nest or already on the sticks, has this been achieved by using heat in your birdrooms ? or am i being a bit to cautious in not letting my birds start now without heat. I do live in the south so would assume it warmer down here.Wayne

Hi Chris,
I've never had a problem with EMP but i do mix it with other ingredients, equal parts cous cous ( soaked over night ) bread crumbs and digestive biscuits. I buy the cheapest i can get at the time, it seems to work with me and the birds.
