  1. Simple one Mark,As you`ve stated the Cock bird is Normal/Fawnlightback paired to a Fawn Hen.This has thrown you a Fawnlightback Hen for sure because Fawnlightback is Sexlinked.Scott
  2. Looking good Mark, keep up the good work Were any of them bred from the birds you got off me?Scott
  3. Hi Robert welcome to the forum.Sadly Charlie Scarth passed away some years back, although Dennis Webster still breeds Penguins and exhibits them.Scott
  4. Good luck at Haltwhistle Dave, sadly i won`t be going,as i have nothing to show I agree it`s a really good show and John Lennox is a top bloke.I know what you meen about Carlisle,i didn`t even get the chance to look at all the birds, with one thing or another and didn`t even get to speak to you Anyway hopefully there`s next year and i can breed some birds to be able to exhibit more than 2 pairs Scott
  5. Thanks Gary, glad to be of help when i can Scott
  6. Hi Wayne,Tricky one this to answer, sometimes the parents throw good coloured cfws, sometimes they don`t.The birds your refering to from European breeders are in fact a totally different cfw altogether,ie ours are called English Cfws and theirs are called Continental. Both mutations are Sexlinked in inhertiance but the Continental variety differs some what to ours. When our chicks hatch out they are Dark Skinned, but the Continentals are Pink Skinned and almost look like pure Whites when they hatch, they also seem to have red eyes when young as well. Two main differances to look out for in Continentals is their tail bars are jet black and white and they also have a more creamy white appearance through their backs, whereas ours have more of a grey/lighter black and white tail bars and are generally white through the back, unless of course Fawns been introduced into them.I`ve kept and bred the Continental variety some years back 2004-2006,but haven`t seen any since i kept them.If you intend breeding nice coloured Cfws, you should try and get hold of the best Coloured Cock birds you can find and pair them to good Normal Hens,at least this way you`ll know you`ve got good colour to start with.Hope this clears a few things up.Scott
  7. Nice one Mark Haven`t decided what i`ll be doing with mines as yet I think i`ll be taking at least 1 Fawnlightback Hen and her brother Normal/fwnltback late 2010 bred to Scottish and Northern if your interested?Ps the father of both birds was a Peter Harrison bird.Private message me if interested.Scott
  8. Hi Mark,Are you thinking of trying to get hold of the Cock bird as well from Dave?It would then give you a matched pair for showing in the Adult classes this season.I won`t be able to show mines, even although there from the same nest because there 2 different colours of Lightback Did Dave manage to breed anymore than 2 this season?Scott
  9. Interesting one Mark.Have just noticed you`ve bred a Yellowbeak this season,is this your only one so far?I`ve also managed to breed 2 this season, which i haven`t done for maybe 3 years or more. The thing is with them being recessive, they do turn up in peoples studs from time to time.Oh forget to say my 2 are a Lightback Cock and a Fawnlightback Hen,which is the 1st time i`ve had Yellow beaked Lightbacks.I have in the past bred Normals,Fawns,Creams and Cfws in Yellow Beaked Forms.Has anyone else bred any this year?Would be nice to see some matched pairs on the show scene this season.Scott
  10. Hi Adrian,Can see better in 2nd pic and yes They look to be Cream Lightbacks.I made a mistake in my earlier post the Cock birds wearing the 2009 ring and the Hen appears to have 2008 ring on.Are you like me Adrian in using up old rings, regardless of the year the bird was bred Scott
  11. Hi Adrian,Hard to be sure from photos but think the Cock is a Silver Lightback.Unsure about the Hen would need to see more pics.ps i think the Hens a Belter well done, did you breed her?Noticed she`s wearing a 09 ring.Scott
  12. Ty in regards to what judges are looking for in colour,it doesn`t really matter,so long as the pair your showing match for the same shade of Silver but on saying that they need to be able to distinguish them between Normals. There`s no sure fire way to be able to always breed light coloured Silvers, you can pair a Light Silver up and breed Dark Silvers and it can be the same if you pair up a Dark Silver, you could get Light Silvers :rolleyes:It really is that hit and miss with the Silver Mutation, but still think it`s my favourite mutation Scott
  13. Hi TY,To answer your question do Silvers Get Darker after they moult,in my experience i`d have to say NO.When your chicks fledge, whatever shade of Silver they are from Light to Dark,is what you`ll end up with :) Scott
  14. Hi Trevor,Hard to tell from pic,but i don`t think it`s Silver.I think it looks to White in colour,i can see faint tail bars and also a hint of a Cheek Patch, but can`t see Tear Mark on photo. So not really sure what you have there Scott
  15. Welcome Brian, enjoy your time and feel free to ask questions RegardsScott
  16. All Normals produced from Blackcheek to Normal pairing will be split for the Blackcheek mutation.AS stated earlier by Dave Edwards Blackcheek is recessive, which simply means all the Normals you breed will carry Blackcheek in hidden form, both Cocks and Hens Hope this clears things up for you.Scott
  17. Mark your unlikely to get any Creamlightbacks unless of course the Fawn cock bird is split for Lightback. If indeed he is split for Lightback all well and good but if not you`ll only get visual Creams,of which the cock birds will be split for Lightback and the hens won`t Hope this clears things up for you Scott
  18. myself Mark but looks like a fawn lightback to me.I managed to breed 4 last year but they were all hens.Scott
  19. Welcome Kim,You made a wise choice taking up zebras again.Enjoy the site and good luck with this years breeding RegardsScott
  20. Thanks Pete,That`s a new one on me Lightback Cheeks Look forward to seeing pictures later on.CheersScott
  21. Have you got a pic of a Lightback Cheek Hen Pete,is i don`t think i`ve seen 1 before.CheersScott
  22. Hi Pete,Like the head features of the hen you`ve bred so far What do you mean Pete by a Lb cheeked hen,is it Blackcheeked LB ?I`m thinking of pairing a Cfw cock with washed out markings to my only Greycheek hen.I think this pairing will only produce Chesnut Whitecheek hens though.Scott
  23. Thanks Mark for the info on the Blackcheeks but i reckon i`ll stick with what i have for now.As i`ve said in earlier posts i`m going to try my hand at breeding a few Silverlightbacks and also some Chesnut Whitecheeks this season.Scott
  24. Funny you should mention Blackcheeks Trevor, their like gold dust these days even the small petshop ones.I use to breed them in the 90s but gave up towards the end of the 90s to concentrate on my Normals and in the last 10 years i can`t really say i`ve seen many at all being showed. If i`m lucky enough to see any again that i like,i would snap the persons hand of for them Scott
  25. That wouldn`t happen to be Dave and Dave by any chance Mark Scott
