  1. I have 3 young female Zebras and on Friday bought a pair of 12 week old exhibition finches from my local garden centre, since adding them to the indoor aviary the 3 females are chasing the new female around and the new male is attacking all of them.

Do you think 4 females and 1 male together is wrong should i get another male or 2 to balance it out.

    Jules.

  2. Hi Emmy,My chick didnt get fed by the Gouldian as far as i know it just went to the seed hopper with it to feed and still does, they even snuggle up together at night, the male Gouldian and 2 Society finches are happy with the chick being there.

I am looking forward to seeing my chicks leave the nest i had a quick peek at them today they are very lively and noisy, hope yours do well.

Sorry for the small picture my original was too big to post but i think now it is too small.

    Jules.

  3. Hi all,

Just to let you know i have removed the baby finch and put it with the Bengalese finches it has been feeding itself from the hopper so its looking good.

Thankyou everyone for your help , i will remove the Zebras nest after the new eggs have hatched,i have a lot to learn but know there is plenty of advice available here.

     Many thanks Jules.

  4. Hi Emmy

Thanks for the reply yes the parents are using the feathers to line the nest and are happy for the chick to sit in the nest with them but every so often they chase it out and attack it so as you say they may want to concentrate on the eggs in the nest.

The chick has no injuries to it and hasnt lost many feathers so i think i will keep an eye on it tomorrow to see what happens and maybe someone will be able to answer my question about putting the chick with Society finches,

    Many thanks

    Jules.

  5. Hello all,

This is my first post,i need some advice please,i have a pair of Zebras with a 4 week old chick which has just started feeding from the hopper although the parents still feed it aswell, the problem is the hen has laid another 7 eggs although is not sitting on them yet but at times both parents are plucking feathers from the chick and the hen has attacked it a couple of times this is my first chick as i only started keeping finches 7 months ago so not sure what to do.

I have 2 Gouldians and 2 Society finches that have been sitting on 6 eggs for 21 days but how long should i wait to see if they will hatch it seems a long time?

If the chick keeps being attacked do you think i should put it in with the Society finches or is it too young?

    Thanks.
