  2. hi ,

I have tried a few different floor coverings absorbent paper, sand ,cat litter, saw dust  but finally settled on easibed I find it stays in the cages better and less of it ends up on the floor its also very absorbent and if when breeding the bird take some of it into the nest box it can be easily removed without any trouble,

Try covering the front of the cage with  somthing that makes it dark inside maybe a piece of newspaper or a tea towel  then if he freaks out leave him covered for an hour or so  to let him settle before going back to the cage. (just leave enough room to remove the tray so  you can clean him out)

not saying this will work but most birds will settle and remain charm  when in the dark.

    hope it helps

  4. hi emmy

if i find clear eggs all i do is remove the eggs give the nest box a bit of a clean and then supply the pair wth some fresh nesting material. that way the birds start to rebuild the nest  and get back in the swing of things

    thanks

  5. hi all

i agree with paul i have 20 pairs down at the moment and out of them i have 3 pairs just hatching  2 pairs look to have fertile eggs but all the rest have had nest of 6 to 8 clear eggs  this has been the case for me for the last few years and i agree that they are probabbly to fit and keen to breed  and dont concentrate on the job in hand. like paul said they do settle down and inprove and the second rounds are normally full.

  6. hi

i only ever put them on the inside as a last resort as you say it can be awkward to inspect the nest.

The cardbord ones do fit on the outside aswell not sure what size they are.

The wooden boxes are 5 inches by 6 inches with a removeable top.

  7. hi Owain

I now use wooded ones fitted to the cage front i find them the best for me just my prefrance

i have used the card board ones and still have a stock of them should i ever need them as somtimes particular pairs will only breed in the box if its inside the cage or if i remove the top so i use them for this.

i have made some new wooden boxes over the last few weeks as i managed to score some free 6mm ply from work.

  8. hi all

  9. hi all

Its breed for a normal grey cock bird to a grey cheek hen i will have to cheek further back for grand parents but its from birds i have breed myself over the last few years and i dont have any blackbrested at all and never have had so maybe its got some blackbrested in it from a distant relation.

this is the first and only bird i have breed with this color so its a new one on me

    cheers

  10. Hi allI would say the dirty head comes from the parent birds as i used normals in my cfw to get there size up then once happy with the size then pair cfw to cfw to hopefully get clean heads after a few breeding season of cfw to cfw the dirty heads can become a rare occurance cheersRyan

  11. hi all i tried these pellets when i read this post as i have been trying to find the best floor covering for my birds today i had to remove all of the pellets for the few breeders ihave them in as the cock birds were trying to bulid over full nests of eggs.i used to use hourse bedding called auboise that was good but found it was not heavy enough and spent more time sweaping the floor, i also tried oil asborbant pads from my work which i must say do a great job but found they can only be used when they are not breeding as they are easy to tare so the birds just fill the nest full and keep over buliding today i went to my local farm shop and found what i think is the best soloution its made by the same people who make easi bed it's called eco cosy bed very absorbant to heavy to fly around every ware and hopfully they wont fill the nest boxes with it ( onlyt time will tell)cheers ryan
