isabels don't have tear marks. BB don't have tear marks. So I am at a loss to understand how these young do have tear marks. They in aviary with other birds though?

Could he not be a fawn cheek???? need pics of tails Andy also.

I have trio's in aviary but two hens. Not noticed it before with two males.

The only chance of fawn chicks would be if any of the males were split for fawn......which could be possible but you may not be able to distinguish the split.

Nice birds. Look like Phaeo's.

Hi Tony
There is a bird auction every Thursday near Wigan.......not always zebras there but I believe it gets busy so it maybe worth a trip to check out and maybe get chatting to other bird lovers for advice etc etc. Clipley pet shop in Haydock sometimes has exhibition size Zebs in also!

Agree with Andrew. Many mutations are possible with penguins, but I feel the the beauty of the penguin is often spoiled by mixing it with other colours. This is not to say that I would not put them in a mixed aviary...I simply mean that the mutation is best visually pure in my opinion and probably why its one of your dads favourites,
As mentioned earlier, penguin is recessive......if all your penguins did pair off with other mutations then the young would carry the gene...... and if these young carrying the gene eventually paired up then there would be a small percentage that could turn out full penguin.
Very nice birds.

very deceiving picture....is it grey or fawn.....deffo not normal grey or fawn as no tear drop....could mean isabel, could be split OB or maybe both but not LB. I'm on the fence!
-
I would agree with clare I think......so the OBBB pair are both split for isabel and the Male split for Fawn........so the fawn baby is a Fawn OBBB Hen????
and the isabels will be obbb also.
Possibly. lol.
-
looks to me like a BB/Ob. You would need at another bird to be split OB to have any chance of creating a full OB.

2 out of 3 nests so far for me have done the same! Happened to me last year, then the same parents and same setup went on to succesfully rear next time.!

'If it has chestnut coloured flanks he more than likely to be split fawn as this has interrupted the black'
I didnt know that could be the reason for non black flanks, makes sense I suppose.
Good info Trevor!
-
the perfect black cheek will have black flanks.....normal flanks would be considered a show fault.

I agree with tremuth on description.....suggest a phaeo hen for him. There are plenty around. Shouldnt have a problem finding one.

Hi All

Agree with Paul M....if the white one sings its a male.......if that nest gets an egg its a female lol.
Does look very deep red that beak tho.....I am swaying to it being Male!
-
The black cheek pied could be fawn maybe....lighting could be affecting pic tho.
The light back male will probably be split cfw.
The black face black breast looks like he has a bit of pied in him.
And I think they are fawn hens....
but like sarah.......im not 100%

its possible for the exhibition cfw hen and the grey penguin could produce a normal. But I dont think you will ever work out the parents in this situation!

Hi and welcome.
Looks like you have a nice pair of normals. (the exact colour of the original wild zebra)

Thanks Paul
The ring is still free flowing up and down the leg so I know it isn't causing a problem.
Will give it a go.

Hi
I have a zebra with a dodgy foot. It is an old zebra now I think. I first noticed it not gripping the branches properly a few weeks ago but now it has swelled quite big and it is not using it at all. I can see no obvious injuries so I assume it to be infection. Is there anything I can do to help it? I have been catching it daily to dip and swill the foot in some antispetic liquid but is there anything else I can do?
Scott
OK, can someone help out please
