  4. Hi all, The answer is yes i did pass 100 youngsters (103) it's my p/b. In all of my cages the nest boxes have been taken out, 1 cage with 3 young which will soon put into the aviary. Newark this weekend and after that gradually re-furbishing the cages and really blitz the place. I know there's plenty to do in the shed but i find this time of year for me with zeb's can be a bit boring with nothing happening. But these jobs have to be done. Next month will be how far work on re-furbing has gone or any new stock. All the best to everyone this month and look forward to next months blog. Trevor
  5. Helen, Welcome to the ZFF uk, hope you ejoy your stay on here. All the best,Trevor
  6. Paul, I don't think you will get away with that one cos the cage is meant to be white inside Nice one,Trevor

  9. Liam, Have a look on www.efinch.com there are pic's on there + info so you could match up what you've got.Hope this is of use,Trevor
  10. Hi Mark, Welcome to the ZFFUK, enjoy your time on here, no question to small. All the best,Trevor
  11. Chris, Yeah looks like BB fawn, but has she got what we call ghost markings on her flanks, like a male has but very faded ? If she has she's orange breasted.Trevor
  12. Chris, Chestnut Flanked White, Fawns & Lightback = Sex Linked Black Cheek, Black Breasted,Isabel, Orange Breasted, Penguin, Pied, Recessive Silver, White & Yellow Beak = Recessive Black Face, Fawncheek,Greycheek,Dominant Silver & Crested = DominantBF male x BB hen = 50% Normal split Blackbreasted & 50% Blackface split Blackbreasted OB male x BF hen = 50% Normal split Orangebreasted & 50% Blackface split OrangebreastedJust to take it a step further, you really need 2 pairs of each set up then if you put:-BF/OB x Normal/OB = 25% Normal/Orange breasted 12.5% Orange breasted 12.5% Black face (SF) 25% Black face (SF) /Orange breasted 12.5% Normal 12.5% Black face (SF) Orange breasted BF/BB x Normal/BB = 25% Normal/Black breasted 12.5% Black breasted 12.5% Black face (SF) 25% Black face (SF) /Black breasted 12.5% Normal 12.5% Black face (SF) Black breasted (SF) = Single factor which means the dominant bird is basicly from one dominant parent, (DF) = Double factor bird from two dominant parents.I'm 90% sure on this but Paul will confirm when he see's this, hope this helps anymore questions no probs.Trevor Ps I always try to keep grey with grey types and fawn with fawn types
  13. Paul/Chris, I never put 2 dominants together of the same mutation ie BF x BF Greycheek x Greycheek etc.In the past when my young leave my shed i put them in the aviary, and in 2010 unbeknown to me 2 x greycheeks had 2 young and they were both blind this has happened to me twice so from experiance i would not do this.On the other side of the coin i have put Blackface to Fawncheek and Crested to 3 different dominant mutations and had no probs. Please bear in mind that this is of my findings and i don't want to sway you one way or another. What ever you do Chris all the best,Trevor
  14. Brian, Welcome to the ZFF uk you will enjoy it on here, they're all a good bunch.Regards Trevor
  15. Getting towards the end of my season now, as young leave parents i'm taking box's away. Out of 13 cages 6 are now shut down. 6 have got young and the 7th has 4 eggs. 12 youngsters i have rung this month which brings my total from cages to 83. At the moment the 6 cages with young have 15 in total so once rung it brings it up to 98, will the nest with 4 eggs have 2 or more young to make 100? Wait till next months blog to find out the final number for 2011. If any of you reading this are showing, all the best on the benches. Trevor
  16. Ade, Never had a double crown on a zeb or heard of getting one, so basing on that i would say no. But i have been wrong in the past.I've included a pic of one of my 2011 crests, i'm quite happy with this one, any comments would be handy please.Trevor
  17. Dave, Good crest on that Fawn male, i like him.But one thing i've noticed with crests is that even if the parent with the crest is a good one you can't guarantee the the young will have good crests and visa versa.Keep up the good work, Trevor
  18. Kyle, Welcome and all the best with your breeding programme.Trevor
  19. Hayley, Welcome to the zff hope you enjoy your stay on here, really helpfull bunch on here, all the best for your new breeding season.Trevor Ps, I shall have a table with zeb's only on it at newark sale if you are interested even if you don't want to buy come over and have a chat, i will post my table number nearer the time.
  20. Mark, If this younster of mine is what i think it could be it's a Cr,BF,BB,Is Fawn. But we'll see,Trevor
  21. Paul, If you notice i said had, he keeled over bit of a nuisance really few years work gone . Could seem to get another one so i'm trying my luck at the BCCFW's i want to introduce BF into them, seen prints of the bird really nice black on white, fingers crossed.Dave, you can't beat a nice surprise it keeps you on your toes, why do you have to have a straight road, when you can have a road with a few bends in it All the best, Trevor
  22. Mark, I've had a OBBBBF which is basicly the same as the all black type only with a lot of orange instead of black very smart.Trevor
  23. Mark, BF x BC = 50% BF/BC BF/BC x BC = 25% BFBC BFBC x BB = 50% BF/BCBBBF/BCBB x BC/BB = 6.25% BFBCBBIf you are going to try this start off with say 4 pairs and get the types you want. So try a get the BC/BB while you are breeding another part of your aim. It's a bit of work but it's worth it in the end.Hope you acheive your goal, also the Eumo is nothing to do with the above it's a seperate item altogether. If you google eumo zebra finch then click on images there's a few pic's.All the best mate,Trevor
  24. Wayne, No prob's with that.If you want any more reference with zeb's go to www.efinch.com i've found this usefull in the past.Trevor
  25. Penguin, If you go to my gallery (trev's zeb's) you will see a blackcheek fawn and a blackface blackcheek grey, both hens and they do have blackcheeks.Hope this has helped you, if your hen has what i call a fuzzy tear mark she could be split for blackcheek. Trevor
