Andyn So far the cockatiels are louder than Bobby- I think he'll 'talk' more than squawk' (fingers crossed lol) mind you there are more of the cockatiels (lol)
When I had Bobby out about lunch time he?she? did come onto my arm (1st time) so I'm pleased about that. It's early days yet he needs to get used to his new surroundings and I was advised to leave him in the cage he came in for about 2 weeks ( providing he gets out of the cage every day to have a fly about) One thing for sure Bobby likes its food.- that's how I get him back into his cage (Simples)

(lol) Trevor I think If I got a 'gong' it would be from my family -- using it to give me a knock on my head to put some sense into my brain' Re Elizabeth ? Well no way would I go to Buckingham Palace- but if she wanted to call in on her way to Braemar I would let her see the my birds and maybe even give her a coffee. The 'Gong' Nah!! Just all the more things for my family to clear out later on Add in C&A that's No! No! too. Public Zoo ??? so far all my visitors get in free and coffee/tea included. Wouldn't want to make it too public in case I got evicted
Now David Attenborough Yes he could come (I like him) but not to make a programme! He could come and help me tidy up and help clean out the cages etc.
Gary That photo is sooo nice. think Rabelou would probably appreciate that but he already has a 'Mistress ' two in fact. One is my S-I-Ls King Charles- who gets locked in her cage whenever Rabelou enters my S-I-Ls house. The other 'mistress' he has is his BIG cushion. Guess it wont be long until there is a new breed of cushion puppies running around here .
I sat last night and made out another list of clues but didn't get around to posting them SO!!
Andyn Top of the Class!!! *****
The missing word is Bolivian.
After having really good laugh at all the brilliant guesses (Thank You All for that) Finally here is Bobby who already a few stories to tell. So keep checking!

I'm finding it difficult to type my sides are sore with laughing
I know there are lots of fields and farm animals where I live but I doubt if I'd like to come face to face with 'Belgian Blue' though to get him in that condition someone must love him (lol)
BUT one point to you 'Andrew' you did get ONE word correct -'blue'
Forgot to say that Gary got quite close to the last two words on one of his posts!

Well Done Andy!!
(That's for your imagination)
Was this the one you were thinking about ?
Like you Andy -this one didn't get it right either guess it should have picked a different number. (lol)
Now here is another clue: What could it be that I would give it the name -Bobby? and to make it easier I'm giving you all the initials: (Bobby's name is not included)
B B F A P the first B is a foreign country now that should make it easier.
-
Nah! --Cold Andrew! very cold! but your photographs are just wonderful.
-
(LOL) No! No! No! Penny that would be a wee bit too big for my garden - but maybe worth thinking about one? It could put its trunk down and lift me up and I wouldn't get any more lectures about why I shouldn't be using stepladders.
I've never said that 'African' was the clue
Emmy
-
Wrong again Gary its not a pair of African Greys. (How I wish that had been correct!)
Dave I do have an empty rabbit hutch and I'd have loved it to have been a rabbit but it's not. (Maybe in the future)
Steve I already have a miniature goat but it's in France couldn't sneak it onto the aeroplane coming home (lol)
my miniature goat!
p.s. I don't like goat's milk!!
-
Sorry Guys nowhere near.
But there is a clue in some of the words you used Andyn.
Oh! I would have loved it to be a horse but there is no way I'd get on its back - poor thing would have a sore back if I did that but the photo you attached was just right if it had been a horse it would have been in the house if it could have managed through the door (lol)
Gary I have always thought about having a goose as another type of 'guard dog' to give Rabelou (the Ninja) a rest but not yet!

Penny you said -"This bird keeping hobby is taking over" guess you should have been warned when you bought your first zebra finch they have a of habit of hypnotising you so the next time you visit a pet store you can't leave without buying a little feathered friend.
Sorry to inform you that there is no cure for this and it lasts a lifetime.

Think this is normal Penny I've noticed mine usually lay 2/3 eggs before they start to incubate them. Great news that they have started to lay.

Penny that sounds really great what you are planning. Had a wee laugh to myself when you said you bought more and now you will have 26. One thing for sure re the breeding -soon, if you let them breed you will be able to add a '0' onto the 26 .
Is that 3 of your birds? If they are they are beautiful just love those colours.
Hope all goes well with your aviary.

Andy was thinking ahead when I got that. When there's no more hens(not likely though) with a little adaptation it could make a nice wee aviary.(lol)
Tony It's so easy to get talked into things, especially if you are a 'soft touch' where birds and animals are concerned. I'm thinking ahead now and if the family want some eggs they will get a shock - these eggs will not be free!! If they want them the price will be doubled (lol) (just kidding lol)

Hi Andy
I did tell the Bengalese they may be getting a few lodgers so they were forewarned. (lol)
This morning when I checked the Bengalese nest the chicks were still alive and there is 'something' in their crop but it doesn't look like seed but it does look as though they are being fed because I reckon if they hadn't had some food they would have been dead by now. The Bengalese now have a 3rd egg of their own in the nest.
-
Never took a thought about that Andy. Guess I should have done that but I think its going to be OK just checked and the chicks look lively and are moving about in the nest and they are sitting on the nest. Is it better to put the egg shells in with the chicks? Not sure if the other one in the incubator is going to hatch but if it does I'll transfer the egg shell with the chick.

Andy re the daily fresh eggs! If you lived close by you would get all the eggs you wanted -no charge! (lol)
At the moment I give all my quail eggs away to my son and my neighbours and I guess they'll be getting lots of the hens eggs too as I'm not too keen on eggs!
-
Andy I'm still determined to find another Texan White Quail cock bird (lol)
I've ordered 12 Texan White fertile Quail eggs which should arrive tomorrow/Thursday and the incubator is ready and waiting.
Surely some of the eggs will hatch and I'll get at least one cock bird.
but how things have been happening here lately it wouldn't surprise me in the least if all 12 hatched out and they were all HENS. (lol)
-
Guess I know who the culprit is now.!
-
Hi Andy Reason I mentioned if perhaps a cockatiel etc may have killed the chick and eaten it -at the back of my mind I seemed to recall reading something about that - but it could quite easily have been referring to something else (lol)There's definitely no rats/mice or stoats in the inside/outside flight and some finches have young in their nest in the outside flight next to the D.Dove's nest and they are OK Just cant understand this I wondered if it was because there is only one female D.Dove to 3 males the other two males have always been hovering around the nest while the bonded pair were incubating the egg.
The only destructive bird I can think of at the moment that I have is Lucifer my pied zebra finch (lol)
It's a mystery but I'm going to have another search tomorrow.
ps Forgot to say my hens are in a separate enclosure away from the outside flight.

Thanks Andy
(That's another chapter almost completed to : you know what (lol))
By the way the above is truly happening it's not made up.You'll need to look out for my next Blog it will be about my chicks , not aviary birds. (my 5 hens.) (lol)
Guess you will know by now where most of my day is spent -- doing the housework ? (Ha! Ha! that's a joke!)
Well -- I have two fridge magnets that say it all-
1. 'Dust testing in progress--please do not touch the samples'
2. 'You can look at the dust but please don't write in it!' (lol) -
Andy once the chick had warmed up, twice I tried putting the chick back into the nest but both parents just kept ignoring it and I decided not to take any more chances and put it into the hospital cage.
I think I'll need to get all those birds together and give them a stern lecture about the 'birds and the bees' and if they decide to pair up and have their 'fun' then they must be responsible parents. (lol lol)

I should take a break from avian science and switch to teleportation studies. Quantum physics here I come!F.Finches why don't you try to get in touch with the 'Star ship Enterprise' and communicate with Captain James T. Kirk and he may get 'Scottie' to 'beam' the chicks to me from what I've seen on TV it only takes seconds.
Ohh!! just a thought! I think Captain Picard has taken over now. (lol lol lol)

Thanks for your kind words amf
F.Finches if you could bring 'Dubai' here (lol) or send the chicks via internet (lol) I'd just love to help but only after I've caught up on some missing sleep (lol
On a more serious note I'd like to say Many thanks again for all your information and advice its much appreciated.

Hi F. Finches
I had read that at a week old they should have their last feed at 11pm and first one in the morning at 5am but I hadn't done that I was feeding it every 2hours during the night too. only once I did go over the 2hours and that was one morning when I didn't hear the alarm and I overslept.
I have bought all the medication we discussed and I had it all here. In fact I was considering adding a little spirilina to the formula tomorrow .
Thinking back Hamish seemed to change after I had increased the ratio of formula-water. but he was only on that for one day. But it may have been one day too many.
-
Thanks Andy,
This has been some day! I not only lost Hamish but I also lost my silver CPQ. She had been laying an egg but she hadn't passed it out properly and was bleeding I had to bathe her bottom to release the egg (the egg wasn't broken) then I put her in a quiet warm place but it didn't work this time. I had this happen to one of my Texan White quails 2 years ago so I knew what to do That Texan white did survive and she still running around.
I feel so lost tonight It beginning to look like for every one of the birds that make it two don't.
Hamish's parents are busy building another nest just hope they wont give a repeat performance.
