  1. Thanks for posting the photo of Fidget she looks adorable- definately a CFW hen. What colour of mate are you going to get for her? Emmy
  2. That's great news that they are allowing you to handle them- they must be really tame. The one I hand fed is quite tame and whenever I go near his cage he comes to me and waggles his tail so funny. looking forward to seeing that photograph. Emmy
  3. Welcome to the forum. (I'm from Fife too ) I did have peach faced lovebirds ( I had 2,) turned out both were females, but lost the last one last year they both lived to be over 13 years old. I now have 11 Texan white and 3 Chinese Painted quails-the hen is sitting on eggs at the moment and Zebra finches- (Chestnut flanked whites, Normal males, fawns, pieds and orange breasted-orange breasted 3 young just hatched) and also a pair of Fife canaries. looking forward to seeing those photographs of the new arrivals Emmy
  4. Hi Ryan Welcome - great to see some more young people with this hobby. Josh who is a member on this forum is the same age as you. I have a pair of Fife canaries what kind of canaries will you be getting. Emmy
  5. Something like myself!! - In December 2011, like you, I only one pair of zebra finches. Then I found it was difficult to part with them so I bought more cages. Next I bought 3 quails and when they laid eggs and didnt sit on them I bought an incubator and used their eggs and hatched out another 8 quails- Now I have 11 Texan white quails. During this time my pair of zebra finches were such good parents that before I knew it I had quite a few finches but the offsprings were either normal cocks or CFW hens. So I bought a pair of pied zebra finches and a pair of orange breasted zebra finches. Now I have about 24 finches (and I have 2 canaries.) Be interesting to find out how many you have at the end of the year Emmy
  6. Welcome to the forum. I have CFW and they are lovely birds. Are you keeping the chick? Emmy

    Hi

Welcome to the forum Mal Dont want to put a damper on what you are considering but I take it you had kept the canaries indoors. but dont forget even if you have the canaries in an aviary you will still be in that environment when you go in to clean them out and feed them. I know another person who had to get rid of quails for the same reason and his were kept outside. Saying that I hope everthing works out OK with the aviary for you- a great hobby. Emmy
  8. Welcome to the forum Gareth looking forward to hearing what colours you manage to get this year. Emmy

    Hello All.

Welcome to the forum Dale --That's a great start you have made to 2013 in joining the forum. I'm sure you'll enjoy posting and look forward to hearing more about your feathered friends Emmy
  12. Many Thanks Trevor I'm beginning to wish i had kept them in cages- now they are together in the aviary it will be difficult to find the ones that arent related- I dont have them ringed. Good excuse thought to go out and buy some more stock. Have a nice night and Happy New Year when it comes. Emmy
  13. Thanks Adam but at the moment I'm left with only one CFW cock and if I paired him up with one of the CFW hens I have in the aviary I wouldnt be able to tell if it was his 'daughter' that's one of the problems with an inside aviary I do have normal males but they are split for fawn and CFW so not sure what that would throw up. So far with the CFW male and the fawn female its always been normal coloured cocks and CWF hens until that last lot that I had to hand feed and Woopsie is has turned out to be a fawn male. That was a surprise. Emmy

    Hello

Hi tillysmum, Welcome to the forum The members on here are great and all are willing to help and all your questions will be answered so go ahead and ask anything you want to. I know canaries can be kept in the same aviary but not sure if you can keep budgies and finches together but you have said you would be keeping them separate anyway. I'm sure you will really enjoy having the finches. Wishing you all the best for 2013 Emmy
  15. Thaks Trevor and Adam I was hoping I'd maybe get a CFW male. So far all the CFW I've had have all been females. Emmy
  16. What colours could I expect to get from this pairing? Fawn male/ CFW female Guess it may be difficult to tell because Fawn's mum was a fawn but his dad was a CFW but his dad could have been split for fawn as well. CFW female -mum cfw - dad normal (could be split for fawn/cfw) Emmy
  17. Small world isnt it! Hope you get what you're looking for -good luck. Emmy
  18. Hi Shugster, I didnt think the sale would be on this Sunday-thanks for reminding me. Just been thinking -was it by any chance you who was buying a pair of Bengales finches at your first visit to the Milton of Balgonie sale? There was only 2 pairs of Bengalese finches left and I was buying the other pair when I was asked by the person selling them if I would mind letting this gentleman, who was buying the other pair have them and I could get mine at the next sale. He did say the person wanting them was just out of the army and was starting up the hobby again. So if that was you -you have spoken to me and you did go home with the two pairs of bengalese finches. Emmy
  19. Good Another Fifer! Welcome to the forum. Do you know that there is a bird sale on the last Sunday of every month in the Victoria hall at the Milton of Balgonie. Bird food, accessories etc is also on sale then (Next sale will probably be end ofJanuary) Colin Clark who is a member on here,(he breeds zebra finches)may be able to give you a few contacts. Good luck with starting up again. Emmy
  20. Welcome to the forum Tina. That was a lovely Christmas present to get and they will give you a lot of pleasure throughout the year. another thing that keeps them occupied is if you cut short lengths of string and tie it to the cage they will go for that and perhaps stop plucking the feathers. What colour are Arthur and Martha? Emmy
  21. Welcome Andy Looking forward to you letting us know how things work out. Wishing you best of luck with the CFW Emmy
