    1st Chick 2012

It looks 'cheeky' great to get a photograph like that, its a nice wee bird. What type is it? black cheek?Emmy
  3. Hi KimThe photograph isnt coming up only a red X in the box?Emmy
  4. Hi MarkI didnt realise that some pairings could result in blidness etc. I doubt I will be at Carlisle - but it would be nice to meet you all. (Need to get all those 'shows' moved north of the border a bit )Emmy

    Fawn 2012

You get some good photographs Paul. Thata a lovely wee bird, I shouldnt really say 'wee' because she looks as though she's going to be a wee 'porker' You say you dont get to shows very often Paul, isnt it a pity there wasnt a 'competition' /'section' at the shows for people like yourself where photographs could be sent in to be judged.Emmy
  6. Thank you so much for that offer Mark. That's so kind of you. Re me going to the shows?!! as I've said I'm not keen on travelling and I know the bird group that have the bird sale I go to do get a bus organised but they stay overnight and come back the next day which doesnt suit me. I did notice that there was a railway station at Stafford and buses run from the station to the bird show. So that maybe be antoher option for me but still to think about it. Who knows maybe some day we will meet up. One question- you have 'creams' what pairings produce creams?Emmy
  7. Its a bonny bird Mark. Congratulations Me personally I like them all no matter if they were as ugly as sin. I just think that Zebra Finches are the cutest little birds you can get.Emmy
  8. Now that WOULD be difficult on two accounts:1. Gizzy doesnt have a kennel but he does have a variety of his own 'beds' to choose from2. and As he is a chihuahua, I guess he would fit into my bed no bother (but that's banned)but as for the other way round that would leave a lot to the imagination. So Meantime I think it may be wise to stop going to the bird sales because I know if there happened to be Zebra finches there I'd probably finish up bringing some home. On a serious note I really have to think about the work I'm giving to my family here if I go on holiday to France to visit my daughter and family.Emmyps that's not to say I will never be getting more
  9. Thanks PaulGuess I would need to get another pair to get different colours.Emmy
  10. Paulthe Father: CFW Mother: FawnHave cropped the photos so they are individual now.Is there a chance I could get a dark (normal) female from that pairing?Emmy
  11. These are the 4 that hatched out end of December 2011Now they have got their final feathers is the male a normal split fawn?the 3 white ones : 2 have dark markings on their heads and one , no dark markings on head but feathers not pure white, and has fawn markings on her tail feathers.Grateful for any suggestions.Emmy
  12. What's on your mind?

  13. Chris said Does this mean you cant enter a bird into any competion if they are not ringed would it be acceptable if it was a split ring on the bird if the show wasnt organised by the ZFS? Emmy

    Normals

Watch out Paul you may just drop it when it shouts back at you telling you just to speak English because you are making a proper mess of Zebra talk and it doesnt understand a chirp you are saying. EmmyI whistle to mine and they just sit their and put their heads to the side and look at me as though they're thinking "She's not the full shilling".

    Hello

Hi AllanI'm not too far from there. Have never noticed any pubicity about that. The one that used to be held in our village bowling green hall folded up a few years ago. Do you know who organises the one in Markinch?Emmy

    Hello

Hi Allan Nice to find something happening North of the Border.Just discovered a couple of weeks ago that on the last Sunday of each month there is a bird sale at the Coaltown of Balgonie in Fife so far I've still to discover if they ever have any 'shows' On my first visit there to get another Zebra Finch, or 2 canaries didnt realise that its much wiser if you go to get the birds first then get the food later- so when I got back to get the birds they were all sold and I finished up coming home with 3 quails!! a slight differnce in the size of the ones I intended to buy  Wishing your and your group Good Luck Emmy

  21. What's on your mind?

  22. Later on if I was to buy a 'normal' female and put it with the normal/cfw&fawn cock would there be a chance of getting 'normal' hens and cocks or would the cfw&fawn gene be always be present (is this what is termed as 'split?)Emmy
  23. Paul that is so interesting its taking me back to when I did my higher biology and looking at images of chromosones taken with an electron microscope. I had forgotten about that. When you mention lightback/CFW then CFW/lightback does this mean that the first 'colour mentioned in each would be the dominant gene? What difference would this show in the colour of the bird? eg does a lightback/CFW look different from a CFW/lightback?From that brood I also got what I think is a 'normal' cock bird (Orange cheek patches etc) so would that one be termed as a normal/lightback or normal/fawn mother being Fawn and dad CFWI have just had a close look at the cock bird (dad) (CFW) and its tear and chest barring looks to be dk brown not jet black so he must be a CFW/fawn. (the feathers on his back are white but not pure white.) Have I got this correct?Emmy
