I hope you have some chicks soon.
-
I'm no help with the mutations as I'm just learning myself, but what a nice selection of birds you have.
-
What a shame. i hope the remaining chick makes it.
Would it be worth removing the doves from the aviary?
Good luck with your BC's.

What's the nesting material? Is it hay?
I hope you have chicks soon.

OK. This is interesting and slightly more complicated than I thought.
Most of my birds were bred with me, so i know their parents. I have CFWs (males and females) whose parent's were also CFW. My Greys (also a mix of males and females) have a Grey father and a CFW mother.
-
They are beautiful birds and such a nice selection of colours too.
-
I don't have any fawns as all my birds are either CFW or greys. I have been wondering about getting some fawns as it is an attractive colour. I keep my birds in an aviary, so they pair up with who they like.
If a fawn paired up with one of the CFW, what colour would the chicks be?
If a fawn paired up with a grey, what colour would the chicks be?

Looking at efinch, I'm leaning towards her having one copy of BC. The grey cheeks have much 'cleaner' markings with an obvious black tear and grey cheek (very pretty IMO). This hen really looks 'smudged' but it's hard for you to see as I managed to get one of the cage bars right over her cheek on the least fuzzy photo. Sorry.
Any other thoughts?

I would think that it's more likely that chick 2 is male, but hasn't fully feathered up yet. My young males have always tended to grow in the breast bar before the flank markings anyway.
-
I've not heard of GC.
*Goes off to look it up*

Oh right, I didn't know that. Thanks.
I had a CFW hen that was definitely a BC carrier (she had BC offspring, including the one in my avatar) and she was white with thin, grey tear marks, no smudging. Does anyone what was going on with her?
ETA - Maybe with her paler tears the 'smudging' into the cheeks was too pale to really see?

Photos.
Sorry that they aren't the best.

That looks a super set up. Looking forward to the photos of the inside.

After losing one of my CFW hens recently, I decided to replace her and popped into my local pet shop that normally has a good selection of zebbies. I ended up choosing a hen with slightly unusual face markings and coming away with a super CFW male as well... as you do. I'm not certain if she's just badly marked or has something else going on too (maybe BC?) as she looks like her black tear markings have smudged onto her cheeks.
Any ideas? I'll try to get a photo tonight.

What a nice surprise. Fingers crossed that the parents breed you some more!
-
I won't give up hope just yet then.
-
I've seen them for about £8 too.
I was really lucky and had a nice surprise when two surprise BC chicks hatched from non BC parents (although they must both carry BC, I didn't know that at the time). The BC pied is shown in my avatar.

Well I feel a bit bad - I hadn't noticed that a grey hen had escaped. Anyway, there she was sitting on the aviary, pretty much saying 'let me in!' So i did. Then an hour or so later the grey male did the same - once he'd worked out how to get in the window as the aviary is in the conservatory.
Now there's just the white hen to go. I really hope that she turns up, I'm quite worried as she's not been seen yet.
-
We've spotted the second male, but he was flying between two really high trees, so no chance of catching him. I've put some sprays of millet and water out, so hopefully he'll be sensible and come down to have something to eat. No sign at all of the hen.
-
We've got one of the males! He was so tired and hungry, poor lad.
-
My RSPB friend is going to bring his mist net over first thing tomorrow. He'll play zebra finch calls to try and attract them over.
*Fingers crossed* that we get them.
-
I had two pairs of zebbies and they each had a nest. One pair immediately started to have clutches of eggs and ended up bringing up three broods of chicks on the trot before they stopped for a well earned rest! The other pair had nothing that year, but had four broods the next year.
-
I hope they come back when they are hungry. *crosses fingers* I can't hear them anymore, so they must have flown off a fair way to be out of earshot.
Thanks for the good luck wishes.

I'm so upset.
Three of the zebbies are out due to human idiocy. One of my lovely new CFW hens and two grey normal males that are sons of my favourite bird.
I have a friend who works for the RSPB but he says that it's too sunny to use the mist nets at the moment. I can hear them in the trees, but feel so helpless.
So Excited! New Bc Chicks Hatched.

My grey pied BC (in my avatar) and a grey BC hen have just hatched their first clutch.
I don't know if she carries pied or not, so I guess that it's most likely that the chicks will be grey BC's that carry pied. I hope they are good parents. *keeps fingers firmly crossed*
