  1. OK. This is interesting and slightly more complicated than I thought. :)

Most of my birds were bred with me, so i know their parents. I have CFWs (males and females) whose parent's were also CFW. My Greys (also a mix of males and females) have a Grey father and a CFW mother.

  2. I don't have any fawns as all my birds are either CFW or greys. I have been wondering about getting some fawns as it is an attractive colour. I keep my birds in an aviary, so they pair up with who they like.

If a fawn paired up with one of the CFW, what colour would the chicks be?

  3. After losing one of my CFW hens recently, I decided to replace her and popped into my local pet shop that normally has a good selection of zebbies. I ended up choosing a hen with slightly unusual face markings and coming away with a super CFW male as well... as you do. :p I'm not certain if she's just badly marked or has something else going on too (maybe BC?) as she looks like her black tear markings have smudged onto her cheeks.

Any ideas? I'll try to get a photo tonight.

  4. Well I feel a bit bad - I hadn't noticed that a grey hen had escaped.  Anyway, there she was sitting on the aviary, pretty much saying 'let me in!' So i did. :) Then an hour or so later the grey male did the same - once he'd worked out how to get in the window as the aviary is in the conservatory.

Now there's just the white hen to go. I really hope that she turns up, I'm quite worried as she's not been seen yet.

  5. We've spotted the second male, but he was flying between two really high trees, so no chance of catching him. I've put some sprays of millet and water out, so hopefully he'll be sensible and come down to have something to eat. No sign at all of the hen. :(

  6. I had two pairs of zebbies and they each had a nest. One pair immediately started to have clutches of eggs and ended up bringing up three broods of chicks on the trot before they stopped for a well earned rest! The other pair had nothing that year, but had four broods the next year.

  7. I'm so upset. :(

Three of the zebbies are out due to human idiocy. One of my lovely new CFW hens and two grey normal males that are sons of my favourite bird.

I have a friend who works for the RSPB but he says that it's too sunny to use the mist nets at the moment. I can hear them in the trees, but feel so helpless.
