the rearing food that came with the kit is call Exact.....
-
thanks guys... I just bought a kit of eBay. I will find out what type the food is when I get home..an post later. it's the mixing of the food I am unsure of? I think I can sort the tubes and the chicks.... I only keep zebras Emmy... I don't need to rear any at the moment as all 15 I have are being well fed by the parents.. but I lost five from my 1st round an all of them had empty crops so this will be my safety net. I don't have a brooder.

any tips on how to mix hand rearing food... after loosing 5 chicks from my 1st round from not been fed I have now invested in a hand rearing kit..... was looking for info on how to mix it up?
thanks

how odd... with the egg size...... I stopped putting paper under my easibed as the birds would do the same as yours an cover there clutch up. I was taught after the 4th/ 5th or so day when the hens should sit if they come off the nest an you think the eggs have gone cold touch the eggs on your lips you will be able to tell instantly how cold they are. gone cold normally means they are no good. I have a young pair of CFW 1st try she laid 8 eggs an did not sit. I reset them 11 days ago she now had 6 eggs an looks like she is not sitting again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have been told it's very odd for zebbies to get mite's as they eat the little blighter's....... but I may have been told wrong... I still treat my birds an there cages just in case.. I use a poultry( I have chickens as well) mite spray.

one tip regards perches Sarah. I found even mixing the dowel size still does not give them enough foot exercise!!!! I went to a B & Q and found a bundle pea sticks for less then a fiver for about 20... then just cut them to size. they are all uneven sizes, seems to help the birds a lot more or it does for zebbies.....

sorry for you pal.... I only put them down on the 23rd... only nine pair an all 9 had eggs until yesterday when a cfw hen decided to eat a couple.. the rest are now sitting tight an I don't want to mess too much so I have not checked for fertile but in 6 nests I have 5-6 eggs an most have started to change colour.. an two more nests with 3 in. I have not got to the hatch stage yet but you just no when you have that cock bird that's going to be a pain... chin up mate things will get better for you fingers crossed.....

what fresh greens do you give them. mine like cress, kale, cucumber, brocholi(cooked) mashed up cooked mixed veg. also try mix honey water in your shop eggfood. oh an washed soaked millet spays. from what you are saying i think you are doing a good job so far.

It's horrible when you loose one... Sorry. Sounds daft but zebras do get a common cold just like us an with the up an down weather we're having... Or if he lost weight an feathers may have gone light.

Try not to be too involved let the pearants s do there job. Good seed, emp or another egg food. Maybe mashed up hard boiled egg. Fresh greens. Just be there if mum an dad need a hand

thanks Gary... i will work on 14 days. have 8 pair out of 9 on eggs. things are looking good so far.

it's a show fault... I have one just the same he has good flanks/chest bar and lovely head and is an almost perfect D shape but his cheek patches are week. I am puting him down with a nice long hen with very dark tear marks to see if it helps with the cheek patches in the chicks.....
I also think you can get a European CFW that does have lighter check patches.... I am sure someone on here with more experience then us two will be able to shed some light as I think the European type bird is lighter all over

I am at a loss on this one. my only thought is if the birds were related.

Quick update on my poorly CFW hen. it's good news! this morning she is back up on a perch. looks a bit worse for where but is a lot brighter and fingers crossed looks like she is going to pull through. just take a season sabbatical from my breeding team.

Thanks Andyn... just annoying when its the best hen of that color an it's my first breeding season! an even more so that I will start to put the hens up Thursday. I will give her as long as she needs an if she never breeds then not a problem. I just hope she pull through. I have got quite attached to her as for a zebra she is quite friendly.
cheers

Am having to take my best CFW hen out of my breeding team!!!. started Friday tea time went in to de husk as I always do ( I feed them on a morning) all was fine. went back at 9pm for last checks before lights out at 10pm. blood sprayed all over her cage!!! checked both hens in their, no sign of a fight. when i caught her felt the EGG. so thought egg bound take her out put her on heat and oil on her vent... Sat am again blood all over hospital cage but she had passed the egg but did not look good. added calcium supplement to her water and left her alone. an got on Google!!!. seem she has a prolapsed vent tract as it's sticking out an she was bobbing. Sunday sat on bottom off hospital cage but she had drank an eaten but did not look good, made no attempt to move when I picked her up to check her over ...kept her on heat an quiet but I did not expect her to be with us this morning yet I go in an she is hopping about waiting for breakfast she still looks a little rough be massive improvement... its a shame as she is a cracking hen. will see what she is like tonight when I get home.
My question is will she ever be able to breed? an is there anything else I could do for her?. I am not bothered as if she lives she can spend the rest of her days in a flight. she is a very pleasant little bird who would of been a very good mum. I suppose these things are sent to try us. she is a 2015 hen. all my other hens are fine an my birds get plenty of natural light, good ventilation, good seed, fresh greens, EMP, cooked mashed veg, mashed hard boiled egg, grit, cuttle, pink minerals, fresh water, avion advanced, thrive and gloss, fruit pâté.... have I been doing something wrong ?
