  1. hi , i've never really bothered with any crested but today i sort of came across one by accident ....i had a trip over the the wirral to pick up a job lot of stuff and amongst them was a really nice crested pied hen ..although a little on the small size the crest is really good .a bit like a gloster canary ...i have some sizeable pieds and pied whites to perhaps pair it up to ... so i was wondering is the crested mutation dominant ,recessive or is it the crest to crest bred scenario similar to canaries ..regards jeff...ps theres also in the mix a semi decent pied cock bird with no crest thats out of the same aviary that might get paired up to it (perhaps taking a chance that its crest bred)
  2. welcome aboard scott ,good to see someone else from the north west on here....what colours are you thinking of going into??
  3. probably best to get a couple of visual cock birds and pair them to lightback hens ,then take it from there ....have you been on jan pastoors website?..some beauts on there....i've a few nice ones..this years plan is to try to get some black faced ones

  6. theres reccesive silvers also on efinch mark ...theres also a few mutations that are in australia that dont exist yet in the uk ...george,alumina and frizzle...if you tap in australian zebra finch society into google its the first site that comes up..regards jeff
  7. have a look on www.efinch.com ...quite a few zebs on there ..with good information on pairings etc
  8. if you pair black cheek to black cheek size can sometimes suffer ....(similar penguin to penguin )..so working with a good normal and then working with the splits will take a tad longer but you'll hopefully end up with better birds in the long run
  9. hi josh ..have you been on www.efinch.com i think its a good site and suggests good pairings to produce different mutations

    Penguins

i had a trip over to the "winterbottoms" in rochdale today to pick up a few pairs of penguins again.. any one who fancies some wouldn't go far wrong to give them a ring or find there sales table at stafford as they've bred a fair few of decent standard...
  16. a good site to look round if you fancy dilutes/silvers etc My link
  17. ..glad to say gary that numbers are on the up...suprisingly enough i've even bred some half decent blackcheeks and some splits. also got the odd pied or two and some ok whites,a few fawn cheeks and even a nice dilute..
  18. bit of a let down really..the birds were a blackfaced black breasted and a black cheeked cfw(he said he had 2 the same???)...i passed on them both as they were a bit too small..they looked better in the photo he'd brought to the sale a few weeks ago..
  19. hi ..i'm picking up tomorrow 2 cock zebras in a very unusual mutation ...i've only seen pics of them .they are looking like a bit like the ultimate zebra finch on gary landries website except where that one is orange with light/isabel wings these ones are blackish with isabel wings...hopefully they live up to my expectations.and i can get some pics on here to see what you think...jeff
  20. hello sam ...i'm in the preston area as gary says but i've only got 4 pairs of zebs at the moment ...theres a sale at bilsborrow village hall this coming sunday ,but they do start very early ,too early really!! ...but to get the pick of the birds there its best to ther about 8 ish ...have you been there before??jeff
