Hi Dean,welcome to the forum.Are you hoping to breed zebras for showing or just for pleasure cus there quite a difference to the way you breed exhibition birds regards pairing etc,the only reason i ask is i originally just wanted to keep for pleasure but quickly decided to go in for exhibition type birds so be careful about buying too many until you decide which path to choose to save time and money.All the very best luck for 2012. Hi Mark,very nice birds ,great feeling when own bred birds and nice to work on next season,i know exactly what you mean about dilutes and colour mutations and combinations,very interesting but takes some getting head around,lucky we got experts on here to listen too,didnt know you could get silvers from creams for a start,anyway well done marc and good luck with them. Could anyone tell me if silver chicks darken at all after 1st moult,ive got 2 chicks out of nest today from silver cock normal hen both chicks are very light in colour 1 has darker cheeks than other but not sure if i would class as silver enough?i will post pics asap and hopefully somebody might assess for me. I understand entirely Paul,originally i was intent on normals,blcheek and lightbacks,ive now got cfw and fawns due mainly by acquiring some faboulous birds by offchance but been fancying silvers for some time and cant resist the temptation to try with them..how many colour muts you have if you dont mind me asking? Ty

Can i ask if you are breeding silvers should you cross silver-silver or to normal or any other colour?i should have asked this question before i did a pairing really but i didnt,i got one silver cock i think anyway?and paired to normal hen both decent sized,i have 2 chicks at 9 days old rung yesterday the few flights coming through appear silverish to me so im very much hoping that they will turn out silvers,but would appreciate any advice on silver breeding at all. Thanks for the input guys,ill keep reading it all over till its clear in head,i might have mislead as i have approx 8 prs of blch altogether but the pair i referred are outstanding in my opinion,hen has 2 eggs discovered this evening so may leave for this 1st clutch then pair both to normals,im glad i asked the question as i assumed you just paired blch-blch im now feeling happier before too late in season,up to now ive produced 12 blch chicks which i will use early next year.gratefull again Ty.

Blimey,not as straight forward as i imagined then,i have bought 1 really nice pair of visual blch and put them together,should i have paired to normals,sorry if repeating but cant quite get my head round it,what if i keep together then use youngsters to pair to normals so i have more stock initially?will all youngsters that arnt visual blch be split blch if not how do you tell,?i never thought there was so much science to producing exhibition zebras,certainly a challenge on brain cells of which im short.
