  1. I think Lee will have to get a gold star for that.
  2. You'r very welcome to our Forum Jay and you've started off on the right foot by entering the photo competition too. Looking forward to seeing your posts. Any Questions you have please ask away. Could you tell us how you found us please i.e. Cage and Aviary Magazine, just browsing etc. Cheers Andyn
  3. And I thought you ladies were the strong ones where we men get man flu you battle on regardless. Seriously Penny, hope your back to good health soon. With regard to making photo files smaller you can try this site- https://pixlr.com/ select the 'editor' app and then 'launch web app' when you are in you will get a box asking where you want the files from. ( If you've saved it to a computer then select that one) Once it's in the frame go to top of page and click on Image button, go to size and when you get box telling you the size of the file you can change it to anything but it's probably best to go for 680 x 460 (if there is a little tick in a small box then the system will automatically change the second size to what it thinks should correlate with the 680. Once you have changed the size go to 'File' and 'save' Save it in place of your original (over writs) on computer. You should be able to upload it to the Forum post now. The forum system does also make images smaller but shouldn't cause any problems. Any problems PM me and we'll go to the Forum 'chat' room. Hope that helps but there might be others who can also advise. Andyn

    moving house

Wishing you all the best in your new house Penny. Hope you and Steve will be happy there and you both breed lots of birds. Your story about the Budgie in a neighbour's conservatory reminded me of when we lost an aviary Zebra Finch and one of our neighbours called round to say had we lost one as they had one fly into there living room and help them selves to their Budgie's seed.. Andyn
  5. Good on you Emmy. 'Only a mother could love it' they also look prehistoric I think. My crop feeding rig is also out but the chicks go back in their own nests after feeding time. Parents started to feed and then stopped.
  6. I loved that Emmy. You are just going to have to write that book and I think people would have a real chuckle when reading. There is a book out called 'Kornflakes' a few years old now, but your blogg narratives always put me in mind of it. Keep em coming please. Andy
  7. I can't think of the country but is it- ***** Blue Fronted Amazon Parrot?? Could be Brazilian or Bolivian
  8. I know! I know! please Miss, is it - 'Racing Snails'
  9. It's a Giant African Snail. (That would be weird I think.) Enjoy what ever it is Emmy. Andy
  10. Welcome Dave, I'm at the other end of the country from you and Emmy. Enjoy our forum and always ask ?? if you need to. Andy
  11. Happy Birthday Eamon. Have a great day. Andyn

    fledglings

Well done Andy, I'd missed the point about beak colour. (and I breed Pied/Whites too. Duhhh!) Do BBs not have tail markings?

    fledglings

Hi Penny, To get a White in a clutch which is true to the parents (non fostered in) then both parents need to be carrying the Pied/White gene.( gene is recessive) So if the mum is a visual White then Dad needs to be carrying the gene. BUT there are quite a few mutations out there that could look like white. Hope that those members will explain if it not a Pied/White Andy
  14. Hi Marty and welcome to the Forum and welcome back to the hobby too. I know there are some members from Ireland on here but don't know how local they would be to you and I hope they will make contact. If you join the Zebra Finch Society you'll receive a welcome pack that includes a year book that has members names and addresses in which might help you find the birds you want. Anyway enjoy our forum and any questions you have, just ask. AndyN

    expanding outlook

Penny, Hope the new birds do good. Regarding One egg from five hatching. I know you probably were away but it might be useful to number your eggs as they are laid. That way you would know if it was #5 that hatched there is a strong possibility that no others will. But give them a day or two more. This might also help if you are candling the eggs and have more than 1 fertile etc. Andy

    Crested Penguins

Emmy, All mine are and have been in the Quiko cages with nest box on outside. Perhaps you need to give them a little more time. I'm finding young pairs sometimes take longer to get to understand what's required and sometimes not going into the nest box at all and laying on the floor. I think in a Quiko it's easy to put up a canary pan and it's worked for me in the past. Andy

    My first babies

Penny, I think the basic concept of the Forum is for experienced owners to be able to help newcomers. I'm only passing on the knowledge gained from 3 years on here with Zebies. So don't apologise for asking questions and as someone on here said ' The only stupid question is the one not asked' Mine seem to start moulting about 2 months and take about 6 weeks to complete. (others might find their birds differ from that) CFW do to take longer I find. Andy

    My first babies

Hi Penny Hope you are having a good holiday. Those youngsters look good but you won't get to know their gender until they moult out I'm afraid. Some times young cocks try singing as they start the moult and this gives a good indication before you see any cheek or flank feathers It's easier with sex linked chicks i.e. Fawn cock to normal hen will give Fawn hen chicks and same goes for CFW to normal. etc. If you paired an Ino Budgie to a normal you end up with Ino hens. ( same scenario) But this can also work where the cock is split for a sex linked mutation you get those hen chicks but also other hens could be say Normal. If that is parents in the shot I notice the hen is Black Cheek so those chicks will be split BC. when you breed with them bear it in mind and pair BC to them if you want BC chicks or use non BC partners. Hope that doesn't sound too much like a lecture. Enjoy the rest of your holiday. AndyN

    Crested Penguins

Well done Emmy!!, Did you mean that both parents are crested or just one? if they are anything like crested Budgies I think you pair Crested to split crested to get crested chicks As always I love the computer candled egg photos. Have a good day tomorrow and a happy new year. Andy N
  20. Penny, Does the continental CFW hen have red eyes? If any of the chicks turn out to be continental you will notice the eyes straight away. (same as Inos in Budgies) This also happened to me in my very first year of breeding Zebbies. Keep us posted on this please. Andyn
