  1. One of my Penguin cock birds has chest markings but every chick from him has been perfectly coloured.

I kept him because he is a huge bird and to be honest a few faults don't bother me as I'm not trying to show them.

It just goes to show the markings can be random to say the least.

  2. Hi all

I only foster the eggs or chicks out when absolutely needed.

And it doesn't always work, sometimes you lose chicks/eggs regardless of fostering but definitely worth trying.

Here is a picture of one of my foster Bengalese and a picture of a penguin hen they raised :)

    Thanks

  3. To be honest thats exactly what I thought.

My Bengalese tend to "Adopt" any egg or chick that is left alone.

Most recently I found a stray Zebra egg in a canary pan and thought I would put it in a box the Bengalese roost in and low and behold they raised the chick and are still feeding it now even after fledging.

I do have 4 pairs so that probably helps :)

  4. Thanks Steve

I had a feeling they would be ok but though it would be better to ask advice.

My Bengalese finch hen has just finished rearing a zebra finch that got abandoned, Its one of the reasons I keep Bengalese they make fantastic foster parents,

  5. Hi Emmy

    Thanks for the reply.

I have split the cock bird now and the hen seems to be feeding the chicks although I will keep an eye on them to be sure.

The strange thing is when any of the other chicks come out of the nest the cock bird is fine with them however they are all a similar colour pied but the one that gets attacked is a really light fawn pied, maybe he doesn't like the colour :)

    Thanks again Emmy

  6. Hi all

I have a pair of Pied Zebs in a breeder with 6 chicks, 3 of them have fledged but there is one Fawn pied that the cock bird attacks every time it comes out of the nest.

Can I safely remove the cock bird without risk of the hen abandoning the other chicks?

    Thanks in advance

  7. Hi and thanks for the replies.

I will get some better pictures later and post them up.

Quite a nice suprise as I dont have any black breasts in my aviary.

In fact bar my penguins all of my Zebs were given to me by my brother, Colly on here.

Andy yes I know the picture links to my photobucket account, I use it for various types of forums.

Theres all sorts of stuff in there cars, bikes that I own or have owned :)

Just out of interest what colour hen would it be best to pair this BB with?

I am completely baffled by genes etc and normally just let my birds choose their mate.

    Thanks in advance

  8. Hi

I have had around 15 odd young so far, although it was a really bad start to the year.

I have just had 5 chicks fledge today :)

At the moment I have 3 nest full of eggs.

There is one chick that looks to be a fawn penguin so I will be keeping an eye on that.

As soon as it sits still I will put a picture up

The parents to the Penguin in the picture came from Dean on here via my brother Col (Colly).

    Well happy.

  9. Thanks for the welcome everyone.

Oh yes 2013 looks very promising :)

So far just put up a new bird shed and over the next few months I will be extending my flight, adding breeders etc.

I just spent hours painting the new carry cage I got of my brother Col who is also know as Colly on here.
