  2. I bred a pair off normals, and I got 5 chicks the oldest one died after it left the parents (normal cock), I have another visual normal cock, and 2 cfw hens plus I believe a normal hen, would the cock bird be split as that's what his farther is or will he just give be normals, plus is the other bird a normal hen or will it be a cock bird as it is small compared too its siblings. Dan

  10. Hello and welcome, cheesy2. Dan
  11. Welcome to the forum finchfan. Emmy has got it right as far as im aware. I think that the first clutch off eggs may be infertile as most first clutches are I don't know why, but I've had clear clutches, from my finch and my dad budgies this season so far, but you should normally find that the second clutch is normally fetileb Dan

  14. Hi, Nesting material, they will use as much as you give them and if they start laying eggs all the rest off the material not used should be removed or they can build a new nest on top of the old one like a sandwich. Nest box or basket, its upto you but if you are going too show your birds I would advise you too use a box as I made the mistake, of using a nest basket and can get my chicks out of the basket so I can not ting them so can't show that lot off chicks. Vits and/ads, I use a pint off seed mixed with a teaspoon off cod liver oil, and I also put wheatgerm in with the cod liver oil and mix for 5 mins and leave for the dead too soak for 24 hrs before using others do Use differnt things. hen birds will lay eggs reguarly and will contine todo so, so shouldn't need too worrie about that too much but they can become egg bound if calcium is lacking in there diet, a piece off cuttle fish should provide adiquite calcium for her tho hope this helps and more questions ask Rgds Dan
  15. Really conifer smells brilliant nothing like fresh pine lol I dunno if U could put it as nesting as I've only ever watched the cock bird do it while she was sitting on the eggs and they have made it so U can just about see in, hence the reason why I struggled too get the chicks out lol Dan
  16. I use bits off conifier in my cages as this is different thickness and they seam too sit on the thinnest bits. Plus they seam too shred it and use it too line there nest. Dan
  17. Cracking bird mate, can't wait too get mine breeding, I will give U a run for your money (hopefully anyways) lol How old is the chick??? Dan

  22. thanks for the replies everyone steve what size is your aviary, as mine is gunna be 8ft x 6ft x 6ft and dont want too over crowed it too much and was thinking more off evergreen plants, and couple of climbers too give it that little bit more shelter.. does anybody know if you can keep owl/ bicheno finch together, or any other finch species thanks dan
  23. hi, ive just started keeping zebs again after 7 years out but bearing that in mind im only 22. i have some black cheeks, penguins, normal's and i think there are some chestnut flanks too, along with 4 bengals, 2 diamond doves and 2 pairs off javas they are being kept in an indoor flight until i get the weather and all the materials too make an outdoor aviary its gonna be 8ft long,6.5ft deep and 6ft high. im thinking about putting some plants in there aswell to make it look good and for the finch, they will be in pots so i can remove to help grow the plant before i put it back in, BUT i need help and advice in what plants too use. thanks dan
