Emmy 528 Report post Posted January 3, 2012 Gary that video is just amazing I tried to video my newly hatched chicks to send to my grand-daughter in France but it didnt work -very blurred- maybe it was where the nest was in the cage and I couldnt get a proper focus - your video is just perfect. Thanks for sharing it. Emmy
zebba 'D' 43 Report post Posted January 3, 2012 mark,You say using dummy is a good idea, why is this mate. I have a nest of 6 young at the moment they all seem to be doing fine what does the dummy egg do?CheersChris
mark1e 67 Report post Posted January 3, 2012 Hi ChrisIf you have a hen or cock bird that sits to tight on there young they can cause damage buy squashing them to death ,It happens mostly when there are just 2 or 3 chicks in nest this is why i leave infertile eggs in box until young are least week old,By leaving eggs or dummy eggs in makes hen or cock bird sit higher, mark

Zebraman 267 Report post Posted January 3, 2012 I find that it helps young and inexperienced birds, it also helps to reduce the risk of dead chicks in the nest.Oh and by the way, three of the young fledged yesterday.Gary.
