I am looking for anyone that has some spare hens. They must be a good size, but they can be any type.

Preferably, within an 18 mile radious of Manchester, but I am willing to travel for the right birds.

I've been speaking to a gentleman called Mike Baldwin, some of you may already know Mike, he's the chap that sells the cardboard nest boxes. I've been using these for years and I have them in all of my aviaries and cages. They are great for the breeding season as you can just throw them away after each round and replace them with new ones. They are really good value for money and there's no messing about soaking them in water and disinfectant.

I have ordered 100 which should last me a while. He's a really knowledgeable person and he knows a lot of bird people.

Update 01st April 2021

I went to see Mike today and he gave me a tour of his bird rooms. I got my nest boxes (thanks Mike) so I'm all set for the coming breeding season.

I might have a few left over if anyone needs any.

My name is Gary and I have been keeping and breeding birds since I was eleven. I decided to create this site to provide as much detailed information on this energetic little bird as possible. Much of the content has been provided by fellow enthusiasts along with many of the photos. I also own a run several other sites along with a Forum dedicated to the Zebra Finch

So where did it all begin

It all started when a friend of mine asked me if I wanted to visit a local breeder as he was thinking of starting an aviary. I went along and was amazed by the types and colours of the birds he had in his collection. Two days later I was the proud owner of a pair of normal Zebra Finches and from that day on I was hooked. My father built me a small flight from an old rabbit hutch with a 3 X 3 X 4 flight attached to the side. Before long I had managed to scrounge a second hand 6 X 4 shed and that was it, I was addicted. In later years I gave up the hobby as a family and children came along, but my father still continued with his passion for the hobby we had both started. More recently I was involved in a serious road accident and had plenty of time on my hands while I was recovering. The family thought that I needed something to occupy my time and what better than to look after dads birds and that was it.Dad gave me a pair of Chestnut Flanked Whites and within twelve months I had acquired another eight pairs and was well and truly hooked once again.

Sadly dad recently passed away, but he continued to ask about the birds and took great interest in how they were progressing.
