Well, three of the four eggs hatched but yesterday one of the chicks was dead in the nest, it was well fed but appeared to have been flattened by the parents :-(

The last egg is still in the nest - should I remove it or wait until the parents throw it out??

Of my other pairs I now have 6 pairs with eggs 27 eggs so far! Our candling torch has arrived and it appears that most of the eggs are fertile, maybe I should have ordered more than 20 ZFS rings!!

My finches are definitely doing better than my partners budgies - of 10 pairs he put down only 4 have started laying

Well done Penny,

Unfortunately chicks do get injured or they might even be weak and die even if they are fed. If you have candled the 4th egg and it's clear then you could remove it but by leaving it in the nest it could be protecting the other chicks from getting squashed. Your choice I guess, but don't leave it in there too long as it could start to go off and contaminate.

I know all about Budgies and them being a little awkward at times. I always checked with others and it seemed that they also had the same problems. Zebbies can be like that too.

Keep up the good work and enjoy your birds.

such is life in keeping these wonderful little birds. I am a big believer that it's natures way.  on the rings front remember that you will not get ZFS till the 6th Jan. an zebra chicks need to be rung at 7-9 days. so the ones you have hatched now you wont get 2016 zfs on them.
