    Bc Bb?

Kerry, yes you are right as far as I know, both males I have bred this year the cheek came later. If I was to guess at this, the standard BB male doesn't get his cheeks until later either and I reckon the BB gene is probably stronger so it keeps the BC at bay. How many of these have you bred ? I've had 1x BCBBLB male, 1x BCBB normal male and 1x BCBB normal hen (not a100% on this one yet). Well done, Trevor
  3. All, All zeb's from last blog all went out into the aviary, had one nest with 5 BBLB's and they were absolutely filthy but problem was I was away on hols but my son and daughter looked after my birds for that week and they took box away and over a period of time these young gradually cleaned themselves and the bonus is one of them is a male. This is the first male of this type I've had so happy days on that. This month I have had a few firsts as I said first BBLB male, others are BFBCBB male, BBCFW fawn hen, BCBB normal male and a BFBB hen. So even though the numbers are down compared to 2012 the quality is up. Also I mentioned last month about a silver, well my other silver male paired with a BF hen have got 3 young 1x Normal and the other 2 you've guessed it as before both Creams why ??? again only with a different pair. Not knocking the Creams but I needed silver but that's how it goes sometimes. All the best for this month and i'll be back for the sept blog. Trevor
  4. Hi, Great male BBLB there, I like a lot. I've just bred my first one as well, had 5 BBLB's out of the cage and now they're in the aviary colouring up and one I noticed yesterday is going to be a male. If you paired him with a BB normal = 50% LB split BB males and 50% BBLB hens. or Pair him with a LB = 50% LB split BB males and 50% LB split BB hens. Hope this helps, Trevor
  5. Nick, Happy Birthday, have a good'un, All the best, Trevor
  6. Kerry, It's a dominant silver, not many of the recessive about now. Trevor
  7. All, Another month has gone this one I think slipped under the radar, whosh it's gone. Hope you all are picking up on the breeding after the slow start most of us had. Mine now seem to be in batches, I knew I had 3 young out in two cages but when I went to check and clean today blimey! a total of 22 young that was a shock. Had a couple of surprises one in the shed and one I the aviary. Shed first, Silver male x BB Grey 2 young 1x Grey and 1x Cream Why??? Aviary, had this zeb out looks after itself now, it's a dirty white (best way to describe that) and it's got pale grey cheeks which also indicate he's a BF as well hmmm! i'm a little stuck on that one i'll try and post pic of him. Another bonus the weather IT'S SUMMER !!!! All the best to you all, Trevor
  8. Gary, All the best for today, weather good for you and your family to sit outside and celebrate with a bottle (or 2) HAPPY BIRTHDAY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Trevor
  9. Finchdude, Ok thanks for that, i'm not up on eumo's and any info is greatly appreciated. Could this possibly mean that it's a split then? because of the cheek patch or does it rule it out completely ? Sorry for question but always willing to learn. Thanks! Trevor
  10. Finchdude, I thought a BFBB had cheek patches that went up the head as in a standard BB. Might be wrong though, if anyone could confirm this it would be handy. Trevor
  11. Josh, These are very interesting zeb's, been thinking about these that's why I didn't reply straight away. I don't think they are BFBB either ones because their cheek patch doesn't go over the top as it does with a BB, so even if you add BF to it the elongated cheek patch would still be there. Now following on from Kerry, i'm in agreeance with her because neither of these males have flank spots which sways me towards Eumo. I'm sticking my neck out here and saying one is a Grey Eumo and the other is a Fawn Eumo. Were they in a sale Josh or private ? Nice one, Trevor
  12. Scott, The isabel you've got is the fawn variety also you can get the grey variety. If you breed either 2x fawn Isabel splits or grey Isabel splits, you would get, 50% Fawns split Isabel males and females, 25% Fawns males and females + 25% Isabel males and females. As far as I know Isabel is un-noticed on a carrying zeb. Only through breeding records. This next bit is just my opinion, I would not pair the two crested together again as crests are dominant, which means if two dominants of the same type are pair you can run the risk of blind or even dead in the shell chicks, the two crested chicks are a double factor crest which definitely should not be put to any other crest. A double factor zeb is no visual difference to a single factor zeb, so if it were me I would definitely ring these for future use. Hope you don't mind me saying Scott, Trevor
  13. Clare, Well done, I know last year at Newark sale all I kept being asked for was BB hens, no one seemed to have any, So hang on to this one and try and breed from her. Trevor
  14. Clare, Yes i'm heading in that direction, but I think the black will be stronger by doing it this way, if I introduce a BCCFW hen I think it will be a step back. If it's the other way around and I get a BCCFW hen I will then pair her to a BFBC to improve or stabilise the darker black markings. Hope you can see what i'm saying, Thanks for your interest, Trevor
  15. Clare, Yes I am started off with bought in zeb's but the last 2 seasons it's my stock which is the most pleasing thing. I will use him next season definitely, putting him with a BFBC hen from this season to keep the strong black running. Trevor
  16. Scott, I reckon you could have 100% blackcheek split Isabel pied. But I would say that's a very nice BC pied hen. Hope this helps, Trevor
  17. Dave, Happy birthday, enjoy today, Trevor
  18. Tremuth, Are! you could be right, cos both of them were chasing a female silver for food. Thanks! , i'll keep an eye out and see, Trevor
  19. Sean, No, wrong colour tail, to pale not like your normal or lightback tail colouring. Thanks for replying, Trevor
  20. All, This young male comes from my shed he's now in the aviary colouring up, checked on him today and really pleased. He's going to have black flanks, first one I've seen let alone breed. I've posted two photos of the same zeb, let me know what you think, It's taken me to the third season to get one building up for two seasons and at the first attempt in the third season got one. Thanks for looking, Trevor http://i1177.photobucket.com/albums/x343/trm03/IMG_7552.jpg http://i1177.photobucket.com/albums/x343/trm03/IMG_7556.jpg
  21. All, in aviary today and I've got two of these out identical colour, they are not LB's due to the tail colour, aint gotta clue to parents due to being in aviary. Any ideas would be welcome. Trevor http://i1177.photobucket.com/albums/x343/trm03/IMG_7553.jpg
  22. Emmy, On what you said the pairing is they should be 100% BB split OB Trevor Ps, just looked at photo's I reckon your male is split for fawn this now alters the young to:- 25% BB split OB Fawn males 25% BB Fawn split OB females 25% BB split OB males 25% BB split OB females
  23. Kerry, Looks as if it could be a Phaeo, Good colours on it, Look forward to a photo when it's a bit older. Trevor
  24. All, Here are some new zeb's, the 2 adult birds I bought in from east of England sale they are a pair of BCBBLB's The juvenile zeb's are from my shed, thought you would like to see some, The BCCFW pied was not intentional, Enjoy, Trevor http://i1177.photobucket.com/albums/x343/trm03/IMG_7347.jpg http://i1177.photobucket.com/albums/x343/trm03/IMG_7356.jpg http://i1177.photobucket.com/albums/x343/trm03/IMG_7359.jpg http://i1177.photobucket.com/albums/x343/trm03/IMG_7360.jpg http://i1177.photobucket.com/albums/x343/trm03/IMG_7363.jpg http://i1177.photobucket.com/albums/x343/trm03/IMG_7367.jpg http://i1177.photobucket.com/albums/x343/trm03/IMG_7368.jpg http://i1177.photobucket.com/albums/x343/trm03/IMG_7370.jpg
