  7. First of all sorry I used that over played joke. Now. Hey all, So today morning i walk up to the cages and do my regular nest check and that's when I notice I HAVE FOUR EGGS. So Blue and Snow have two eggs and Black and Penguin another two. I'm really excited and well freaked out. Can't wait for the little babies to finally show up. If anyone does read this and knows any good advice could you please comment them? comment them comment them I think that ought a do it. -Kareem 18/9/2014
  8. definitely a black cheek Fawn hen. I would just like to thank you for taking in the finch. If more people were like you we wouldn't see the saddening numbers in bird/animal shelters.
  9. Sadly I live on another continent ... You could upload a photo so members know what type and colour your finch is. -Kareem
  10. We all know how this ends right? just go get the birds already
  11. I believe that Cock is a lightback. Beautiful bird you got there. Finches are like cocaine, "You can check out whenever you want, but you can never leave" -Kareem
  12. Yeah a split to fawn male paired with a Normal hen would produce: 25% Fawn Hens 25% Normal Hens 25% Normal/ Fawn Cocks 25% Normal Cocks Hope this helps. And for sex-linked mutations just think of them as dominant in Hens and recessive in Cocks
  13. Oh well it's beautiful anyway.
  14. That is a beautiful bird. So could it possibly be a fawn penguin? -Kareem
  15. No updates ... Literally nothing has happened this past months with my zebra finches ... All the recent additions are looking healthier thou. -Kareem 8/25/2014
  16. If no hidden mutations you would get : 50% Normal male/ Fawn and Penguin 50% Fawn female/ Penguin I think there is something called a genetic adviser. just google it. -Kareem
  17. Hi all, I know it's been a while but this entry is going to make it all up. First of I would like to tell you that last week I was off spending the summer at the beach 200 miles away from home. My aunt was taking care of the birds and since I was expecting eggs I thought the extra privacy would be good. When I came back home all was good except there was no eggs. Bummer. Then something happened, something MAJOR. Ice, my white hen, started singing! turns out the doubts I had were true. Ice is a cock. So I was freaking out for a while; then I went out got two new hens, maxing out my cage space. One is a fawn cheek and the other is a black cheek fawn. more variety I guess. So after a couple of rotations and mixing all is settled and Ice is living with his new mate the fawn cheek hen and their room mates Snow and Blue. Brownie is trying to impress the fawn hen by stealing nesting from their cage mates Black and Penguin. So Names? -Kareem 8/10/2014
  18. The father looks like a phaeo to me? and the mother is most definitely not a fawn. Awkward thing is she slight cheek patches.
  19. Hi all, If you read my previous entry you'd know that Snow and Blue have paired up and are building their nest. Well, Today morning I saw them for the first time mating. It was so exciting because now that they have mated and that their nest has been finished the eggs should be on their way. Later this morning I had a cage malfunction and all my finches enjoyed 3 hours of free roaming in my room! I honestly wish I could keep it like that. I am currently working on a 2m * 1m * 1m Indoor aviary so I can unite all 6 of my finches. Back to our original topic, after all the guys were caught/went in I saw Snow and Blue going at it again except this time something weird happened. Something very weird.... Brownie attempted to mate them while they were doing the bees and the birds. If anyone has ever had any similar experiences please comment I would love some advice now. I have also seen Snow preen both Ice and Blue. I am just freaking out. A second love triangle is not what I expected! On the bright side Black and Penguin are doing great in their separate cage. 7/26/2014 -Kareem
  20. Hi Andy, That makes it 2 snow 1 Ice. I'm about to post a new entry that is kind of freakishly weird hope you can help me?
  21. Hi all, This here is going to be a day by day status update and blog on my 3 pairs of breeding zebra finches. I currently have 2 pairs in a cage and the 3rd pair in a separate smaller cage. /index.php?/gallery/image/2523-/">http://zebrafinchforum.com/forum/index.php?/gallery/image/2523-/ There names are from left to right; Blue, Penguin, Brownie, Black, Ice, Snow. I first started out with one pair, Blue and an Isabel male.My Isabel male was killed by a hawk and Blue luckily survived the attack. She mourned him for days until I introduced her to Snow and Ice. Snow and Ice both shared a teeny weeny cage at the pet shop. The owner thought that since both had a white base color they would produce white babies (Ice is a white hen and Snow is a CreamCheeked cock) When they were first introduced to Blue both parties kept their distance and slept on separate perches for the night. The next day I saw Snow FLIRTING with Blue! Ice was jealous. I knew this setup would cause fights sooner or later and that I needed to get a 2nd male. A week later I went out to buy a second male, that's when I met Brownie. He was a beautiful grey bird. On my way home I went by another pet-shop to get them seed and I notIced he had a Blackfaced Blackcheek cock. I instantly bought Black and a female Penguin for him. I called her Penguin for artistic reasons. At first all 6 birds shared a medium sized cage, with three nest baskets. Black and Penguin Instantly paired up while the love triangle between Snow, Blue and Ice was still going on. Black kept checking the nest boxes and when he finally settled on one, he brought Penguin to see it, the next moment they were collecting shredded Kleenex of the cage floor. Occasionally another cock would go check out the nests and roost in one for 2 minutes before being chased away by Black. It seemed that Black had chosen a nest and decided that the others are not getting nests for their own!? I sent Black and Penguin to the smaller cage with a nest basket and all was good. For now. Snow and Blue finally paired up and stare=ted building their nest. Brownie was singing non-stop for Ice and she was Ignoring him. He stuffed his nest with kleenex and occasionally Ice would come up and check it, then she would kick him out and roost in his nest ALONE. Now, A week later, Black and Penguin are doing great, Blue and Snow are done with their nest and Ice has finally accepted Brownie as her mate. Every now and then I find Ice attempting to preen Snow but Snow is a faithful guy and usually flies back to Blue or the nest. 7/26/2014 -Kareem Serry
  22. It seems that here in Egypt, Bird prices are much lower. You could get a pair of zebras (Any mutation the store has) for £8! -Kareem
  23. Sorry is the mother a fawn or a FloridaFancy?
