  1. Some that have been reared are pure white with dark heads and others pure white Hi Emmy/ Steve, The white zebra finch I believe is a pied zeb, unless bred pure white to pure white to get 100% white. This could be why they are showing other colouring, I have white zebs, pure and not so pure, and they to have a light fawn colouring to them and some tail bars. The breeding I done was white to normal and fawn. Not sure if this helps Not to clever with genetics But I'm sure whites being a pied zeb has a part to play
  2. Hi Trevor, He certainly looks pengiun, and as you suggest Blackbreasted. Seems like a nice combination and very unusual. My first penguin I found in a pet shop, didn't know what colour he was thought he was a pied of some sort, fell in love with him and took him home. Found out after some research what he was. Have been hooked on pengiuns ever since, they always seem to look so delicate, have a few myself , that I have bred from him. Nice to see a completly different one
  3. Hi Trevor / Paul I would have to go with the silver on this, as I have had to learn and ask rather alot of questions on this colour this year. This is the fist time I have ever bred silvers and they came out of the blue due to my lack of knowledge on some colours and pairings. I do have a few normal chicks comming through not sure of sex yet, but hopfully one might be female, and the bonus is they are not showing any signs of being pied, as I would like to keep pied out of this line as it is new to me. But will double check the parents for this as most of my normals do carry this in them. Thank you for the advice with the gentics will come in handy for pairing my lightbacks, who unfortunatley are all related to my silver male. All Cream, Silver & Lightbacks that I have had this year are all related so will have to plan extremly well for next year to continue the excellent results I have had this year.
  4. Hi Alan, Welcome to the forum. Clare
  5. Hi Dave / Paul, He is Very pale took me a while to notice his flank markings. i do have one problem have nothing to pair him with for next year, all my good birds this year are related to him directly But still gives me an excuse to go hunting for some new Zebbies. What would be a good coulor to pair him with? I'm thinking a normal female possibly?
  6. Hi All, Broken Foot chick is getting his adult colours, had a hard start to life but now looking great. And looking like a silver male the only male his true parents have had this year. ( He had to be fostered)
  7. Hi Paul / Michael I was thinking penguin, but the stripes confused me so as you say could be a colour fault, I do have penguin in my aviary, so am not to surprised.
  8. Hi Andy, Welcome to the forum. I know Exeter Well , was born there. And my Dad lives Near Launceston. Good luck With your Zebbies Clare
  9. Have a new Zebbie flegde and has gone through his first moult. But am unsure of his colouring, ( nothing unusual for me) From the Attached Pic he has the stripes but no breast bar or tear markings. Some help on why he would have such markings will be really appreciated
  10. Hi Jon, Nice Birds you have there. Clare
  11. Hi Paul, Thanks for the advise. Will have to pair with a BC Normal cock, as no BC lightback cocks at present only normal lightback. Cann't wait for next year to see the results ( I'll probably be even more confused ) Clare
  12. Hi Trevor / Paul Thanks for your help with this. These are the first I have bred of this colour and have been quite a surprise. The photo's don't really do them justice as all 5 are good looking finches, the best I have had apart from the BC Male that appeared. One last question what do I pair the Silver BC if indeed she is with? All the hens are unrelated to any of my other finches so can have the pick of any they like. But would like to get this right from the start rather than losing this colour by mating with the wrong colours. The one thing I don't have to pair with are any Cream or Silver carrying Males as this is a totally new line this year. I do have a Lightback Male, unrelated would this work?
  13. Hi Paul / Trevor, Thanks for the replies There is silver in this line the grandad is fawn dominant silver/ isabel. Have added a couple of extra photo's of the hen in Pic 2, showing the tail feathers.
  14. All chicks are now in full adult coulor thought I would update as one is still confusing me They have all turned out to be hens. See Pics attached. The colour that still confuses me is The second photo, any more help on this would be great now in adult colour, as have never had this before
  15. Hi Steve, Welcome to the forum. Nice looking chick
  16. Thery are very sweet well done as said the middle one is lovely
  17. Heres some better pic's he does seem penguin like as no breast bar, there is pied in the penguins I have. Oh Well if not keep trying, will get there eventually
  18. Thanks Mark, I do seem to be having a good year so far, also had my first Black cheek male appear this year, good sized and and a very handsome boy, bit of a bully Looking forward to pairing him up next year, not sure with what yet? See what happens Have a few ideas for photos for August will send over soon. ( Not a very good photographer I'm Afraid  the birds have to do it for me)
  19. Hi Trevor/Paul, the male behind the chick is the grandad, of that chick, who is fawn dominant silver, split Isabel, OB & BB, This Zeb I bought from a breeder, who gave me the mutation. The light back is confusing as I only have one light back male, although I'd have to agree thats what they are. But the dad in the photo is bright white underneath as described, and after some reading up, I could have lightback factors in my aviary, which could be playing a part in this.
  20. Hi Paul, It is the bird on top of nest box, its the only photo I have of him at the moment. It is not very good, but I'm so chuffed just to have managed to breed one.
  21. Its only taken 2 years but have finally bred a penguin male All last years we're female. This photo does'nt do him justice really. Looks like he needs wraping up in cotton wool, they always seem so delicate Looking forward to next year when i can breed from him
  22. Hi trevor, there are lots of adult zebs in the aviary. Thanks for the reply, I have to agree on the light backs, there is a silver dominant, see above post for exact colouring. Will keep the photo updated for the chick in photo 1. Hopefully all will become apparent.
  23. Forgot the photo of mum and dad ( now attached ), some of their chicks in the background. The dads parents are, mum,Fawn split, OB, BB & Isabel, & nomal male. The normal males are from my own line, and should be normal/fawn.
  24. As requested some updated phots Photo 1 Photo 2 Photo 3 Photo 4 Photo 5 Hope these new photos are more help to identify. Photo1 is the first decent photo I have been able to get of that chick just will not keep still for the camera
  25. Have been stumped this year on some colouring Can anyone help to identify? These came from the same nest, not the best photos The parentage is Fawn dominant silver, split Isabel Ob & BB, Grandad BC Normal female, Gran Mum, Daugher of above and Normale male Dad.
